👚→👗Transformation: "From blouse to dress"💛🧵[ES/EN]

Has it ever happened to you, my dear seamstress friends, that some clients want their garment as quickly as possible, or as we say here, "right now"? Well, it happens to me very often, and it generates a little stress and anxiety. On this occasion, I send you my greetings in advance and hope you had a very good day with God's blessing. To give you some context, it happened with this dress that my client wanted me to finish because she was going to wear it immediately; that is, she wanted to wear it the same day. The truth is, the dress was a strapless dress, and I say "was" because I had to make the alteration she wanted to fit the dress again. Look how it looked before; it's actually a beach dress, but she wanted to wear it for more formal meetings and not for going out for a stroll.

To make the transformation, it was necessary to cut the dress piece at the waist. My client also brought me a wide blouse of the same color and texture as the dress, so I also had to transform the blouse to add it to the dress at the bust. If you would like to see this simple transformation, here are the steps so you too can learn to modify, combine, and transform any garment.

Paso 01
Step 01
We're going to start by unpicking the sleeves of the blouse, since our blouse is wide at the shoulders, it was very necessary for me to unpick it and reduce it by at least 3 cm where the armhole ends. So I cut the sleeves off the blouse and cut off the excess fabric, in this case 2 cm wide on each side, all four sides. Then I took the blouse and the dress, leaving the dress with a waist length of 30 cm, and I cut off the difference at the top of the dress, keeping part of the elastic waistband that the dress had.

Paso 02
Step 02
In the next step, I started sewing the sleeves to the armhole one by one, then joining the sides. There, we will sew them with a straight stitch and overlock (if you don't have an overlock machine, you can easily finish with a zigzag stitch, it's fine). Next, we will place this bust piece to the waist and bust cut of the blouse, sewing it along the edge. These pieces will still be a little wide, and to prevent that, the elastic that we will sew next will come into play.

Paso 03
Step 03
We're going to attach the elastic to the inside of the dress with a straight stitch. We sew all around the edge, stretching the elastic completely. Something I want to remind you before attaching elastic to any piece you're working on is that the width of the elastic will depend a lot on the size. In the case of size M, like this dress, I used 30/35 cm of elastic; for size S, I used 45/50 cm; and for size L, we'll use 50/60 cm of elastic. So, friends, keep this in mind when attaching elastic by size. And with that, I've finished attaching the elastic to the dress. Let's get to the incredible results of the transformation.

Look how lovely this transformation has turned out! It went from a blouse and a strapless dress to a more formal and elegant peasant-style look. I really liked it, and my client is going to love it too. I hope you enjoyed it, and don't forget to share! Have a wonderful rest 🌜 God bless you, until next time! 😊
