The cartoons of my childhood [ESP/ENG]

This month's theme struck me as incredibly interesting, and I'm sure it will fill many of you with nostalgia, just as it did me. So, I'm very grateful to my friend @avdesing for suggesting this topic: the cartoons that were part of your childhood. El tema de este mes me pareció interesantísimo y estoy seguro de que a muchos los va a llenar de nostalgia, tal como me sucedió a mi, así que estoy muy agradecido con mi amiga @avdesing, por haber propuesto este tema, se trata de los dibujos animados que formaron parte de tu infancia. Back then, when I was little, not everyone had a television at home. It wasn't as common as it is now, since it was extremely expensive. But that never stopped me from enjoying television programs, especially cartoons. My neighbors, whom we called "Las Ojeda" (I don't remember their names), did have a television in their house, and they often invited us to watch "Las Comiquitas," as we call cartoons here in Venezuela. They would do this when they were in a good mood, because when they were in a bad mood or annoyed with us, they not only wouldn't invite us, but they would close the windows and turn down the volume so we couldn't see or hear. I know it's cruel, but that's just kids being kids.

One of my favorite cartoons was one of the oldest, featuring a character created way back in the 1930s. But obviously, over time, it became a classic for all generations. In the 1960s, which is when I was a child, it was a very popular character. I'm talking about Daffy Duck, whose wit and cunning always made us laugh, especially when he was bothering poor Elmer Fudd. Although, later on, Daffy got his comeuppance because Bugs Bunny started bothering him. I remember one episode in particular that always cracked me up, where a mob boss thinks Daffy has laid a golden egg, so he kidnaps him.

Other characters I also really enjoyed watching were the Talking Magpies (I don't know their original name or what they're called in other countries). They had a similar style to Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck; both birds (Heckle and Jeckle) are sarcastic and cunning. Their best style is cynicism, and they love to cause chaos wherever they go, especially since they like to take advantage of situations or people to get what they want. This type of cartoon has a more absurd humor than any other, like the episode where the two magpies, Checho and Chucho (as they were called in my country), tired of migrating, decided to stay at Grandma's house. Whose grandmother? They didn't know at first, although they suspected it might be Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother, but what made me laugh the most was that the mailbox was labeled "Grandma's House." However, the one inside the house at that moment was the wolf. And it was precisely this kind of thing that was most fun because it didn't create expectations, speculating about all the possibilities that existed that this pair of crows might bother someone.

Otros personajes que también me gustaba mucho ver eran Las Hurracas Parlanchinas (No sé cuál sería el nombre original o como las llamen en otros paises) Ellas manejaban más o menos el mismo estilo de Bugs Bunny y el pato Lucas, ambas aves (Heckle y Jeckle) son sarcásticas y astutas, su mejor estilo es el cinismo y les fascina provocar el caos donde quiera que van, sobre todo porque les gusta aprovecharse de situaciones o personas para obtener lo que quieren. Este tipo de caricaturas maneja un humor más absurdo que cualquier otras, como por ejemplo el capítulo donde ambas urracas, Checho y Chucho (como les llamaban en mi pais) cansadas de emigrar decidieron quedarse en casa de la abuela, ¿La abuela de quién? Ellos no lo sabían al principio, aunque intuían que podía tratarse de a abuela de Caperucita Roja, pero lo que más me daba risa es que el buzón de la casa está identificado como “Casa de la Abuela”. Sin embargo quien estaba dentro de la casa en ese momento era el lobo. Y era precisamente este tipo de cosas las que más divertían porque no se creaba expectativas, especulando con todas las posibilidades que existían de que este par de cuervos molestaran a alguien.

Another of my favorite childhood cartoons was Tom and Jerry. Even though they didn't speak, they were hilarious; they didn't need to say a single word to make us burst out laughing. Jerry would be running away, and Tom would try to catch him time and time again. Although in some episodes they formed temporary alliances to face another enemy—those episodes were rare, but we enjoyed them. The episodes that made me laugh the most were the ones where the lady of the house always called him, "Tomas!" This cartoon, like all cartoons of that era—well, all cartoons in general—used physical humor, where slapstick and pratfalls reigned supreme. The funniest moments were when the characters were comically deformed, like when Jerry threw an iron at Tom's face, leaving Tom with that shape.

Otra de mis caricaturas favoritas de la infancia era Tom y Jerry, a pesar de que no hablaban eran muy graciosos, no necesitaban decir una sola palabra para hacernos desternillar de risa. Jerry Huyendo y Tom intentando atraparlo varias veces, aunque en algunos episodios ambos hacían alianzas temporales para enfrentarse a otro enemigo, esos capítulos eran raros pero uno los disfrutaba. Los episodios que más me daban risa eran esos donde la dueña de la casa siempre lo llamaba: “¡Tomas!”. Esta al igual que todas las caricaturas de esa época, bueno y todas en general manejaban un humor físico, donde reinaban los golpes y las caídas, lo más gracioso era cuando los personajes se deformaban de manera graciosa, como cuando Jerry le lanzaba una plancha por la cara a Tom y a cara le quedaba con esa forma.

Every afternoon after getting home from school and finishing my homework, I would go to my neighbors' house to enjoy these wonderful cartoons, so obviously watching them now after so much time brings back very fond memories. I hope you'll also be encouraged to tell us about those cartoons or comics that were iconic in your childhood.

Todas las tardes luego de llegar de la escuela y de hacer mis tareas, me iba a casa de mis vecinas a disfrutar de estas maravillosas caricaturas, así que obviamente mirarlas a hora después de tanto tiempo me trae muy gratos recuerdos.
