Resident Evil 4 Proof of Concept for Sega Dreamcast Released
Resident Evil fans that were gaming when the Sega Dreamcast was announced probably remember Resident Evil Code Veronica. It was the first Resident Evil game to debut on a non-Sony console since the franchise started. While fans eventually would see Resident Evil 2 and 3 eventually get releases on the Dreamcast, Resident Evil 4 came out well after Sega’s last console was dead commercially. That has not stopped fans from creating a proof of concept for Resident Evil 4 on the Sega Dreamcast. This is not the full game so reign in those expectations before continuing.
Sega Dreamcast More Powerful Than We Thought
I am not saying this fan made Sega Dreamcast proof of concept run better than the official PlayStation 2 port of Resident Evil 4. Well, yes, I kind of am because that PS2 port was quite rough.
What we see in the video, embedded below, is quite impressive considering the hardware it is running on. I know, I know, the Dreamcast is the uber system of tomorrow, or at least Sega promised it was, but reality has to hit eventually – it was limited in key areas (storage for one). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycPOAyKVqhQ
Remember This Is A Work in Progress
Not only is this a work in progress, it is very likely to never be completed as this is intended as proof of concept. Please, do not harass the developers to complete this. They are creating this in their free time and making it available for free, hit the description of the video above for the link.
That is already ahead of most independent homebrew developers, and we need to give them respect and space to create.
Grab the free download and either burn it to a CDR, drop it on a memory card, or however you intend to play it and just enjoy it.
What games would you like to see ported to the Sega Dreamcast? I am interested in seeing how something like Halo, Bayonetta, or even God of War would look on the Sega console myself.
