Mega Man 2 The LCD Game Ported To Nintendo Game Boy
Raise your hand if you remember the Tiger LCD portable games from the 80s and 90s. For some it may feel shameful to know those games, for others like me, it was our first taste of portable gaming and there is somewhat a soft spot in our hearts for Tiger LCD “games”. I put that in quotations because, well honestly, there is not a whole lot of gameplay in any of these. Mega Man 2 The LCD Game brings the Tiger version of Capcom’s classic blue bomber’s second outing back to the Nintendo Game Boy family.
Giving Fans What They Didn’t Want
LCD games never really took off, even though they were cheap, they were severely limited. There simply was not a lot of gameplay in any of them, regardless of company. Tiger gets a lot of hate for LCD games because they literally based their whole company, or seemingly did, on LCD games.
There were licensed Tiger LCD games for anything that got even a little bit popular, from books to movies to cartoons to Nintendo games. It seemed like nothing was off limits for licensing by Tiger. Considering LCD games were fundamentally different than anything Nintendo had going 3rd parties could skirt Nintendo’s possessive contracts with ease. https://youtu.be/HpWuDmyDjVA
Bringing the Competition on the Go
Sure, it may sound weird to port a portable game to a portable platform but here we are. The team at Zeichi Games have done just that. They have faithfully ported Mega Man 2 by Tiger Electronics to the Nintendo Game Boy. There is support for Game Boy Color and the Super Game Boy too.
If you are not a fan of LCD games then you will probably be bored to tears with this release. For everyone else, this may fall on the “interesting proof of concept” up to “OMG, finally my favorite LCD game on the Game Boy”. If you are the latter, I must assume it is your fandom of the game in question, not the actual LCD quality. I hope anyhow.
