Find the Odd Out Indie Horror Game Review and Let’s Play
Horror games are quite the rage for the last few years. I attribute it to the rise in ease of use in game engines such as Unreal Engine and Unity Engine, among others. Short games have to be focused and horror is a fun genre that works extremely well in a limited time frame and an overall small game. Find the Odd Out is one of those spot the difference style horror games. Unlike more mainstream variations such as Exit 8, another spot the anomaly game, Find the Odd Out is limited to literally a hallway. That is more than enough to make you jump.
Limited Space Horror Doesn’t Have to Be Limited in Scope
Find the Odd Out is an indie game through and through. The graphics are not going to challenge Crimson Dessert or anything. Honestly, they don’t have to. The graphics that are there are subliminally unsettling and that is part of the charm.
As mentioned already, you are limited to a hallway with doors on one side. Your goal is to peek through the peep hole and look at each room. There is something different about one room and you must spot that difference.
Entering the one room that features the anomaly will let you advance to the next level. Each level has different rooms and a different number of them to peek in on. https://youtu.be/6V2xFEh5mFk
Horror with No Blood or Guts
Most horror games rely on blood and guts to get frights out of players. Find the Odd Out is not like that. There is no blood or guts that I could find. There was a decapitated doll on one level but that is a toy. Not a person.
Your controls are limited to moving around with the WASD keys, familiar to anyone that has played many PC games. You can highlight the peep hole to look or highlight the door handle and click to enter that room.
There is a stranger at the other end of the hallway, maybe they are in their own game as well? They are a source of jump scares though so keep an eye on them.
I don’t want to ruin the fun of Find the Odd Out so I will stop here as far as describing what you may encounter. Just pay attention to the small details even though they are not a guarantee at spotting the anomaly.
Find the Odd Out is a short game. I think I beat it, or lost depending on how you look at it, in just over five minutes. The itch.io page says total playtime is about 5 to 10 minutes though “winning” conditions are nowhere to be found.
If you want a family safe horror game to play with younger fans, then Find the Odd Out might fit the bill. Just watch the first couple of minutes of the video embedded above and you will have all the information you need to make an informed decision.
Find the Odd Out is free so you cannot beat the price for a few minutes of scares.
