Unintended Hibernation

Today’s prompt made me laugh, because I actually took a quick nap today. Or at least, that was the plan. This nap was supposed to be one of those short, harmless naps. I told myself that I would just close my eyes for just a moment, rest my body a little, and wake up refreshed enough to continue with my day. But that’s not what happened.
I slept. Deeply. I slept the kind of sleep where you don’t hear anything, not the passage of time, or even the world outside, not even the responsibilities you left waiting for you. By the time I woke up, it was completely dark.
For a second, I was confused and very disoriented. I was trying to piece together what time it was and how long I had been asleep. Then it hit me, I had overslept by like a lot. And just like that, everything I had planned to do had slipped away. But that wasn’t even the worst part.
Before I took my quick nap, I had washed my clothes and spread them neatly outside to dry, trusting the calm weather I had seen earlier. It didn’t cross my mind that anything could change. Apparently, everything did. Because while I was deep in my unintended hibernation, the sky had opened up. Rain poured and the wind blew so hard that, according to my neighbors, it almost took roofs along with it.

And there was me who heard absolutely nothing. Not the first drop of rain, not the storm building or even the chaos outside my window. I only found out when I stepped outside and saw puddles of water everywhere, the ground soaked, and my clothes freshly rewashed by nature itself.
At that point, all I could do was laugh. Because really, what else can you do when your quick nap turns into a full-blown disappearance from reality?
Now I know never to fully trust a quick nap as it can sometimes have plans of its own. lol
