I hope you’re enjoying your Sunday and that this day allows you to recharge your batteries so you can start the week off on the right foot. As for me, I can’t complain; this weekend I was able to rest like I haven’t in a long time and also share simple but precious moments with my family, which, in the end, is what brings me the most joy. Yesterday, Saturday, was a special day from the very first moment. I rested like never before; I opened my eyes at 9:15 in the morning, which for me is almost a luxury. While I was still fast asleep, my son and my husband had already gotten up, fed the chickens, and gone about their routine. I didn’t notice a thing until the aroma of freshly brewed coffee began to waft through the house. That familiar, comforting scent was what finally woke me up. After drinking my coffee with milk, I felt my energy return completely. I took advantage of that momentum to spend much of the morning tending to my plants, which always give me that sense of peace. I added natural fertilizer to the ones that needed it, checked their leaves, rearranged some pots, and enjoyed the gentle silence that settles in when you focus on caring for what you love. Between the plants, the soil, and these little acts of care, the morning slipped by without me even noticing. Then I made lunch, and after eating, my husband and I went out to fill up the car so we could end the weekend with peace of mind.

Yo, por mi parte, no me puedo quejar; este fin de semana pude descansar como hacía tiempo no lo hacía y también compartir momentos sencillos pero valiosos con mi familia, que al final es lo que más llena. Ayer sábado fue un día especial desde el primer instante. Descansé como nunca; abrí los ojos a las 9:15 de la mañana, algo que para mí es casi un lujo. Mientras yo seguía profundamente dormida, mi hijo y mi esposo ya se habían levantado, alimentaron a los pollos y siguieron con su rutina. Yo no me di por enterada de nada, hasta que el aroma del café recién hecho comenzó a colarse por toda la casa. Ese olor tan familiar y reconfortante fue lo que finalmente me despertó. Después de tomar mi café con leche, sentí que las energías regresaban por completo. Aproveché ese impulso para dedicar gran parte de la mañana a mis plantas, que siempre me dan esa sensación de paz. Les coloqué abono natural a las que lo necesitaban, revisé sus hojas, moví algunas macetas y disfruté del silencio suave que se forma cuando una se concentra en cuidar lo que quiere. Entre plantas, tierra y pequeñas atenciones, la mañana se me fue sin darme cuenta. Luego preparé el almuerzo y, después de comer, mi esposo y yo salimos a colocar combustible para cerrar el fin de semana con la mente tranquila.

We like to get everything ready so we don't start the week with unfinished business. However, it wasn't as easy as we thought. We wanted to drop it off at the Ratan gas station, but it was closed—probably because it was Saturday. So we had to go all the way to the one in Los Cerritos, which is where we usually drop it off.

Nos gusta dejar todo listo para no empezar la semana con pendientes. Sin embargo, no fue tan sencillo como pensábamos. Queríamos colocar en la bomba de Ratán, pero estaba cerrada, supongo que por ser sábado. Así que tuvimos que ir hasta la de Los Cerritos, que es donde solemos colocar habitualmente.

That station is near my father’s house, and since we’d already planned to help him that day, we took advantage of the trip. Before visiting him, we stopped to buy feed for his flock of turkeys, because that Saturday we’d be helping him move them from their pen to a larger space. They could barely fit in the pen anymore; in just a week, they’d grown a lot. When we arrived at my father’s house, we got right to work. We moved the turkeys to their new area and couldn’t help but laugh; as soon as they touched the ground, they began strutting around as if they were adult turkeys. My dad was delighted, thrilled to see them so happy and active. It was a simple moment, but full of tenderness and joy.

Esa estación queda cerca de la casa de mi padre, y como ya teníamos planeado ayudarlo ese día, aprovechamos el viaje. Antes de visitarlo, pasamos a comprar alimento para su cría de pavos, porque ese sábado lo ayudaríamos a cambiarlos de coral a un espacio más amplio. En la jaula donde estaban ya casi no cabían; en apenas una semana habían crecido muchísimo. Al llegar a casa de mi padre, nos pusimos manos a la obra. Pasamos los pavitos a su nueva área y no pudimos evitar reírnos; apenas tocaron el suelo comenzaron a pavonear unos con otros como si fueran pavos adultos. Mi papá estaba encantado, emocionado al verlos tan felices y tan activos. Fue un momento sencillo, pero lleno de ternura y alegría.

As evening fell, we returned home with a deep sense of satisfaction. We had filled up the truck with gas, helped my father with his turkeys, and, above all, shared a peaceful, productive, and lovely day.

Ya caída la tarde, regresamos a nuestra casa con una sensación de satisfacción enorme. Habíamos llenado la camioneta de combustible, ayudado a mi padre con sus pavitos y, sobre todo, compartido un día tranquilo, útil y bonito.
