Many are unknown, most of the works unpublished. I think then how many poets there are in this world who will never share their work, how many will die in silence. Undoubtedly, anthologies of poetry, of poets who can barely afford to have their work printed, should be a priority for publishers, but that would be a fanciful and unrealistic idea. Thankfully, we have the internet to share our less-than-perfect writing, fortunate that in this world where there always has to be an intermediary, we are much more direct thanks to managing how and when we share what we write. 𝘑𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯, 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴. Sometimes I write thinking no one will read me, sometimes I think what I write is very good; those are the times I fear the least. But generally, writing and sharing is always a challenge. Over time, I've also discovered that poets are the best readers of poetry because we treat other people's poems as our own, because we know how heartbreaking it can be to share our feelings with the world, even knowing it's not entirely good. So I'm certain that in this silence of forgotten poets, of bad poets wanting to be good, there's an echo of other poets who want to hear them. Because these latter know that behind those words there's more than random characters; there are stories and processes. And in the time that passes, silence is simply a choice. 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦'𝘴 𝘱𝘰𝘦𝘮𝘴, 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴, 𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘰𝘧 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴. 𝘛𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳; 𝘪𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘴 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘐 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘴𝘰 𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭. Over time, I've gathered within me the poems of hundreds of silent poets, and I know that sometimes these poets take my hand and write through me. Reading for me is an almost meditative ritual, even more so when the reading comes from strangers, from unique people, unique in their stories, moments, and experiences, from people who, from their near anonymity, have had the courage to write. I read with the same attention and dedication with which I hope that someone, someday, as anonymous as I am, will read me. Poetry cannot be an immutable and boring space; it must be a place without rules and without aspirations, but without fear of silence or of being silenced. It cannot depend on the printed word, nor on the will of a publishing house that cares least about the author. Poetry must break free from the confines of monologue and become a conversation. A misinterpreted verse should be clarified not with judgment but with a respectful question; a poorly executed metaphor should be a stepping stone to learning; a bombastic rhyme or a meter that's out of sync should be part of the journey for both the writer and the reader. I am a reader before I am a poet, and learning to read well is the only way to learn to write better. Muchos no son conocidos, la mayoría de las obras son inéditas. Pienso entonces cuántos poetas hay en este mundo que no compartirán sus textos, cuántos hay en el mundo que morirán en el silencio. Sin dudas, la recopilación de poesía, de poetas que apenas tienen para pagar que se impriman sus textos debería ser una prioridad para las editoriales, pero eso sería una idea llena de fantasía e irreal. Suerte que tenemos internet para compartir nuestros malos textos, suerte que en este mundo donde siempre tiene que haber un intermediario somos mucho más directos gracias a gestionar cómo y cuándo mostrás las cosas que escribimos. A veces escribo pensando que nadie me leerá, a veces creo que lo que escribo es muy bueno, esas son las veces que menos temo. Pero por lo general escribir y compartir siempre es un reto. Con el tiempo también he descubierto que los poetas son los mejores lectores de poesía, porque tratamos los poemas de los demás como propios, porque conocemos lo desgarrador que puede ser compartir nuestros sentimientos con el mundo, incluso sabiendo que no es del todo bueno. Así que tengo certeza que en este silencio de poetas olvidados, de malos poetas queriendo ser buenos hay un eco de otros poetas que quieren escucharlos. Porque estos últimos saben que detrás de esas palabras hay más que caracteres al azar hay historias y hay procesos. Y en el tiempo que corre el silencio es solo una elección. Con el tiempo guardo en mí los poemas de cientos de poetas silenciosos, y sé que a veces estos poetas toman mi mano y escriben a través de mí. Leer para mí es un ritual casi meditativo aún más cuando la lectura viene de la mano de desconocidos, de personas únicas, y únicas en historias, momentos y vivencias, en personas que desde su casi anonimato han tenido la valentía de escribir. Leo con la misma atención dedicación que espero, a alguien algún día, tan anónimo como yo, me lea a mí. La poesía no puede ser un espacio inmutable y aburrido, tiene que ser un lugar sin reglas y sin aspiraciones, pero sin miedo al silencio o a ser silenciado, no puede depender de lo impreso, ni de la voluntad de una editorial que lo menos que le preocupa es el autor. La poesía tiene que romper el encierro del monólogo y convertirse en conversación. Un verso malinterpretado se tiene que poder aclarar no con un juicio si no con una pregunta respetuosa, una metáfora mal terminada tiene que ser un escalón al aprendizaje, una rima altisonante, una métrica desfasada en número tiene que ser parte del camino de quien escribe, pero también de quien lo lee.
