Today I'm sharing some memories I found from last Christmas. It wasn't nearly like the Christmases of my childhood, adolescence, or even just a few years ago (there weren't many people at my grandfather's house, no gift exchange, and so on), but it also wasn't like those terrible Christmases we had when, for example, our aunt was seriously ill. So we felt grateful to have our health, food, and the company of those of us who are still here. >Hoy vengo con algunos recuerdos que encontré de la navidad pasada, no fue ni de cerca como aquellas navidades de mi infancia, adolescencia y la de hace algunos pocos años (no hubo mucha gente en casa del abuelo, no hubo intercambio de regalos, en fin) pero tampoco fue como esas navidades terribles que tuvimos cuando por ejemplo, nuestra tía estaba gravemente enferma, así que nos sentíamos agradecidos de tener salud, comida y la compañía de aquellos que aún seguimos aquí.

We haven't lost our Christmas spirit, not even though many family members are abroad, like so many other Venezuelans who have joined the diaspora. Hehe, my uncle (my mom's younger brother) has a really strong Christmas spirit; every year he decorates the house, sometimes even to an exaggerated degree, and last year he even included himself in the decorations 😄 wearing a hat and beard like Santa Claus, which brought back childhood memories because once (when my cousins and I were kids) he dressed up as Santa himself to surprise us.

Of course, there were also family photos and pictures with the decorations. Christmas will always be a time for family, and no matter how few or many of us there are, we can't let the traditions that were lovingly instilled in us since Grandma's time die out.
