### English _______ # Australia: The Sydney Opera House After a Visit to Milson Park _______ When we think of Australia, we think of an entire continent—and in a way, it almost is one—except that it’s not the only country in Oceania. We think of a rich, distant land where only a few have the chance to live. We think of the English language, the United Kingdom, and I don’t know about you, but I think a lot about Finding Nemo and the famous Sydney Opera House—which is the reason for this post. I won’t talk to you about the historical features of this city landmark because AI has already surpassed Google in that regard, but I will share my experience visiting it from eastern Sydney.

First, I should mention that Australia is so vast that I think it would take a couple of years to explore it all, so I decided to visit just two cities: Sydney and Melbourne. Each of these cities is enormous in its own right, as well as complex and diverse, because the urban areas are already bustling with energy, but they also boast natural sites of global significance. Today I’m taking you to Sydney and its Opera House, from Milson Park and across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This was the moment when I was jumping for joy inside, because I could see the city’s icon—which for over 10 years had been my dream, my goal, my objective that seemed so far away—and thanks to God, who gave me the courage to take action, I was able to reach it. The reason I stayed only two weeks in Australia and a month in Thailand or India (another dream) was the cost of staying in this country. Since my nearly four-month trip was initially going to be funded mainly by volunteer work—which is also great for any resume—I had booked flights based on those opportunities. But since they wanted to hold onto my passport during my first volunteer stint teaching yoga in Thailand, I decided to cancel the other three trips I had planned in that same country and in Australia, since I thought that if I was about to fulfill my dream, there was no reason to take a risk. Later, I realized that I deserved that trip simply because I wanted it.

> Primero comentar que Australia es tan grande, que recorrerlo yo creo que tomaría un par de años, por lo que yo decidí visitar solamente 2 ciudades: Sydney y Melbourne. Cada una de ellas en sí, también es enorme, además de compleja y variada, porque la zona urbana ya cuenta con suficiente dinamismo, pero además estos puntos tienen sitios naturales de interés mundial. > Hoy les traigo a Sydney y a su Ópera, desde Milson Park y a través del Puente de la Bahía de Sydney. Este fue el momento en que internamente saltaba de felicidad, pues pude ver al ícono de la ciudad que durante más de 10 años había sido mi sueño, mi meta, mi objetivo que parecía tan lejano, y que gracias a Dios que me dio el coraje de moverme, pude alcanzar. > El motivo por el que me quedé únicamente 2 semanas en Australia y un mes en Tailandia o India (otro sueño), fue el valor de la estadía en este país. Dado que inicialmente mi viaje de casi 4 meses estaría principalmente sostenido por voluntariados, había comprado vuelos acordes a estas experiencias, además enriquecedoras para cualquier CV. Pero como quisieron retenerme el pasaporte en el primer voluntariado para dar clases de Yoga en Tailandia, decidí cancelas los otros 3 que tenía en ese mismo país y en australia, ya que pensé que si estaba a punto de cumplir mi sueño, no tenía por qué arriesgarme, y luego entendí que merecía aquel viaje porque sí, porque lo deseaba.

Well, Milson Park is one of those less touristy spots, one of those more local places. It’s located north of Sydney, just past the bridge. I took public transportation there from my hostel—a sort of tram or train. The park was empty of people, and I noticed a family enjoying the place. This was also the place where I really started paying attention to the birds—there are so many of them in Sydney, both in the city and in urban areas a bit further from the center. There, I began to see species that were exotic to me, since they were birds I had either never seen before or had only seen as a child at animal theme parks.

Yo fui hasta allí en transporte público desde mi hostel, en una especie de tranvía o tren. > El parque estaba despejado de gente, y me llamó la atención una familia que disfrutaba del sitio. Además este fue el lugar en el que realmente empecé a prestar atención a las aves, que son muchísimas en Sydney, incluso en la ciudad, y en sectores urbanos un poco más alejados del núcleo, se empiezan a ver especies para mi, exóticas, pues se trataba de aves que o nunca había visto o que de pequeña había visto en parques temáticos de animales.

Milson Park is a place to relax, enjoy yourself, and really connect with Sydney. It’s quiet, surrounded by nature, and offers beautiful scenery. Even so, despite the sheer size of downtown Sydney, I have to say it’s not an overly noisy city and is surprisingly spacious. From Milson Park, I walked back across the Harbour Bridge, something that had become a little dream of mine during this trip. And it was a beautiful experience, as there’s a dedicated pedestrian section. From there, I got a panoramic, bird’s-eye view of the Opera House, which filled me with so much emotion that I even started to cry. I was fulfilling a huge dream, something I’d deeply desired, as I watched that structure rise above the water, resembling waves on the sea.

> Milson Park es un espacio para relajarse, disfrutar y para conectar mucho mejor con Sydney. Tiene silencio, mucha naturaleza y unos paisajes preciosos. Igualmente a pesar de la magnitud del núcleo de Sydney, debo decir que no es una ciudad demasiado ruidosa y es sorprendentemente espaciosa. > Desde Milson Park, regresé cruzando el Puente de la Bahía, algo que ya se había convertido en un pequeño sueño dentro de mi viaje. Y fue una experiencia hermosa, pues tiene un sector específico para peatones. > Desde allí, obtuve una vista panorámica y así aérea de la Ópera, lo cual me llenó tanto de emoción que hasta llegué a llorar. Estaba cumpliendo un gran sueño, algo que deseaba profundamente, mientras veía a aquella estructura elevarse sobre el agua y simulando olas en el mar.

The Sydney Opera House isn’t just a cultural landmark; it’s a gathering place, a social hub where hundreds of people come every day to have a few beers, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy the Australian day and night. That afternoon, I myself enjoyed an Aperol while watching people come and go, chatting and laughing, and I sat comfortably on one of the stone benches—which are far more comfortable than any regular bench—that are there for those who visit this venue in a more casual or passing manner.

> La Ópera de Sydney no es solamente un sitio cultural, sino que se trata de un lugar de encuentro, un lugar social donde cientos de personas a diario se disponen a tomar unas cervezas, a comer algo, a disfrutar del día y de la noche australiana. > Yo misma aquella tarde disfruté de un Aperol mientras contemplaba a las personas ir y venir, charlar, reír, y cómodamente me senté a un costado en una de las reposeras de piedra pero bastante más cómodas que cualquier banco, que están allí para quienes se acercan a este predio de manera más informal o pasajera.

If anyone dreams of Sydney the way I did, I recommend they go—don’t hesitate, take a chance on Sydney—because, in the end, it’s a truly exotic, unique city, teeming with people from all over the world, teeming with immigrants seeking new paths and horizons, and this makes it a very welcoming place for newcomers, turning it into an ideal spot to make friends and enjoy the immigration process—which is always more enjoyable with a group, even if it’s made up of people we’ve just met.
