Last night I had the chance to sample complimentary whisky and wine at a luxury hotel in Central Jakarta. I’ve hosted a few wine tastings myself in the past, but on a much smaller scale. I started on the third floor, eager to try several labels from Scotland, as well as a few from Japan. Most of the whiskies leaned toward smoky and spicy profiles, though there were plenty of sweeter options as well. I enjoyed them all, but my favorite was the Japanese selection, mild, yet still retaining the distinctive character I’d come to expect from the other whiskies I had sampled. ![](https://usermedia.actifit.io/210b0847-8f74-4191-8fc6-c1b483db4f44.jpg) ![](https://usermedia.actifit.io/36676650-d04b-40ad-81e1-08d46bd50248.jpg) After indulging on the third floor, we made our way down to the second. Unfortunately, I had already had a bit too much by then, so my memory of what I tried there is rather hazy. A bit too crowded and noisy, perhaps, but free without feeling cheap. I liked it a lot.
