I want to remind you that I’m recounting this trip in reverse order, because the first thing we did was visit the resort town, and then we decided to go to La Costa.

Well, the road is the same; you arrive in La Guaira and keep going straight down the only road that leads to our destination.

Bueno, la carretera es la misma; llegas a La Guaira y sigues derecho por la única carretera que nos lleva a nuestro sitio indicado.

To make a long story short, the Los Caracas resort opened in the 1950s 😲 and became a national landmark that delighted both locals and visitors alike. It had been closed for many years and had fallen into ruins, but it reopened in December, and we said, “WE HAVE TO GO!”

Para hacerles una historia breve, la ciudad vacacional Los Caracas se inauguró en los años 50 del siglo pasado 😲, siendo un referente nacional esta obra para el disfrute de propios y visitantes. Su funcionamiento cesó hace muchos años, reflejando ruinas, pero desde diciembre las reinauguraron y nosotros dijimos: "¡TENEMOS QUE IR!"

The impact of this reenactment was so great that, whenever we mentioned our plan, EVERYONE HAD A STORY TO TELL ABOUT THEIR VISITS TO THIS SITE. This made me even more excited to explore the place and create my own story.

We arrived around noon; if it were up to me, I’d leave at 7:00 a.m. because I love the ocean, but they don’t open until 10:00 a.m. Another thing to keep in mind is that since it’s near the mountains, the sun can be quite warm, but the breeze makes the water very cold. That sudden change in temperature can make anyone sick.

Llegamos casi al mediodía; si hubiese sido por mí, me voy desde las 7:00 a. m. porque me encanta el mar, pero abren a las 10 a. m. y otra limitación es que, como queda cerca de la montaña, puede estar el sol muy templado, pero la brisa hace el agua muy fría. Ese choque climático puede enfermar a cualquiera.

Admission to the pools costs $5 (very affordable for everyone), but you can’t bring in any food or drinks. Obviously, if you’re bringing a baby, you can bring their bottle; so don’t play dumb—you know what I mean 😊. The important thing is that they sell everything you need to spend the day there. That said, you’ll need to bring plenty of cash because everything costs double or even triple.

La entrada a las piscinas cuesta $5 (muy accesible para todos), pero no puedes pasar ningún artículo, llámese comida o bebida. Obvio, si llevas un bebé, puedes pasar su biberón; así que no se hagan los tontos, que ustedes me entendieron 😊 . Lo importante es que allí venden todo lo necesario para pasar el día. Eso sí, se debe llevar un saco de dinero porque todo cuesta el doble y hasta el triple.

To give an example, when it comes to beer—which is a must in this heat and at this time of year—in some places you can get 10 bottles for $7. Here, 10 bottles cost about $18. That’s an outrageous price, especially since they’re small bottles—it’s a rip-off. Still, once you’re there, you have to buy some.

Para poner un ejemplo, en el caso de las cervezas, muy necesarias para el calor y el momento, en algunos sitios puede costar 10 por $7. Acá cuestan 10 unos $18. Un precio superexagerado, porque son las presentaciones pequeñas, un abuso. Sin embargo, ya estando allí, toca consumir.

The place was almost deserted when we arrived that day; within half an hour, there wasn’t even a place to sit. We noticed they were setting up some awnings, and it turns out each one cost $25. Honestly, at those prices, you’d need quite a bit of money to cover your expenses there.

Ese día estaba casi desolado cuando llegamos; a la media hora, ya no había ni donde sentarse. Notamos que colocaban unos toldos y resulta que cada uno de ellos costaba $25. De verdad, que por esos precios, se debe tener bastante dinero para cubrir las necesidades en el lugar.

We didn't eat anything, even though it looked and smelled amazing, because we arrived at 4 p.m. We did agree to come back another time to try some of the food they serve.

------ **What did I think of it?** # ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

💦 It’s a saltwater pool—did I mention that? I don’t think I did, but it’s something new that everyone should know about and enjoy 💯.

¿Qué me pareció? LO MÁXIMO 💦 Es una piscina de agua salada, ¿se los había dicho? Creo que no, pero es una novedad que todos deben conocer y disfrutar 💯.

💦 It’s very large, with several sections and varying depths. You really need to be familiar with it and not let your guard down, because we saw several children who, in a moment of inattention, were nearly drowning. Thankfully, there are lifeguards on duty, but I think the mothers and other adults acted very quickly.

💦 Es muy amplia, tiene varias secciones y niveles de profundidad. Debe conocerse y no confiarse porque vimos a varios niños que en un descuido se estaban ahogando. Menos mal que cuentan con salvavidas, pero creo que la acción de las madres y cercanos era muy rápida.

💦 They have a stage where they host events such as live music performances, karaoke, or activities that involve both children and adults. In a way, we all got involved because it was so much fun. The entertainers told me they have a variety of shows; I hope to enjoy other events there, since they close at 11 p.m.—plenty of time to enjoy everything.

💦 Cuentan con tarima donde realizan eventos como colocar grupos musicales, karaoke o actividades donde involucran a niños y adultos. De algún modo, todos nos involucramos, porque estaba muy entretenido. Me dijeron los animadores que tienen espectáculos variados; espero poder disfrutar de otros eventos allí, ya que cierran a las 11 de la noche; tiempo suficiente para disfrutar de todo.

💦 The facilities are spectacular: clean, comfortable, renovated, and no fine print; the staff is very attentive and keeps everything in order. I loved how well-prepared they were and how quickly they responded to my requests. I felt like royalty 🌟. It retains the infrastructure from 70 years ago, but with a modern style that makes it look just like the photos, yet different in concept; they did a great job.

A prime example of this is the imposing stone that once had a diving board at its peak; I assume they couldn’t save it, but the memory of those years remains:

💦 Las instalaciones están espectaculares: limpias, cómodas, renovadas, nada de letras pequeñas; con un personal muy atento y que mantiene todo en orden. Me encantó la preparación y capacidad de respuesta a mis solicitudes. Me sentí de la realeza 🌟. Conserva la infraestructura de hace 70 años, pero con un estilo moderno que lo hace ver igual a las fotos, pero diferente en concepto; lo hicieron muy bien. Una muestra de ello es la piedra imponente que antes tenía un trampolín en su cúspide; asumo que no pudieron salvarlo, pero quedó el recuerdo de esos años:

💦 It has access to the beach, although if the pool is saltwater, why would I want to go there? But yeah, there’s something for everyone, and I’d visit it at least for a walk. It’s not open yet, but it will be soon.

💦 Tiene acceso a la playa, aunque si la piscina es de agua salada, ¿para que quiero ir allá? Pero sí, hay para todos los gustos y yo la visitaría al menos para caminar. No está abierta, pero pronto lo hará.

💦 Would I go back? A million times over, YES. It’s a place to enjoy yourself, hang out, swim to your heart’s content, and do something different in La Guaira. I hope they open the hotel soon so we don’t have to make the trip back so late 😉.

But, since you can find the silver lining in everything, I’m sharing these snapshots of years of pure, untouched nature emerging from the sea that we encountered on our way home:

💦 ¿Volvería? 1000000 de veces, SÍ. Es un sitio para disfrutar, pasar el rato, bañarse muchísimo y hacer algo diferente en La Guaira. Espero que pronto abran el hotel para no tener que hacer el viaje de retorno tan tarde 😉. Pero, como a todo se le saca lo positivo, les regalo estas postales de años de naturaleza pura y virgen que emerge del mar que nos encontramos al retornar a nuestro hogar:
