Cada día en mis recorridos mañaneros, me siento más observadora de la naturaleza que me rodea, a pesar que ellos han estado allí y están desde hace mucho brindando su belleza y su función natural como es purificar el ambiente. Hoy comparto algo sobre la Palmera Bismarcck. Interesante y precisa en la información, un mundo bastante interesante ya puedo llamarla por su nombre reconocido en honor al príncipe Otto von Bismarck, primer canciller alemán.

Esta hermosa palmera, la cual me gusta por su color en las hojas de la palma, en la investigación realizada dice que es un azul plateado, para mí es una combinación de verde, azul y plateado cuando el sol hace contacto con ellas es espectacular su belleza. Su origen: Madagascar, específicamente de las llanuras secas y sabanas del oeste y centro de la isla. En su estado natural crece en suelos áridos y está adaptada a climas con estaciones secas muy marcadas y sol intenso.

Su nombre científico o latino: Bismarckia nobilis Nombre común o vulgar: Palmera de Bismarck Familia: Arecaceae (antes Palmaceae).

Etimología: Palmera de tronco simple, grueso, de 10-20 m de altura y hasta 35 cm de grosor. Su textura es anillada marcada, que son las cicatrices dejadas por las bases de las hojas antiguas al caer.

Hojas palmeadas, erectas o ligeramente curvadas, de color verde azulado, cubiertas en el pecíolo de una cera blanca. Segmentos en número de 50-75, largos. Estas hojas actúan como un sistema eficiente para captar la luz solar y dirigir el agua de lluvia hacia el tronco. Destaca por el color de sus hojas, que la convierten en una de las palmeras más vistosas. En algunas culturas las hojas de esta palmera se utilizan para tejer cestas, techos, sombreros, debido a su flexibilidad y resistencia una vez secas. Los indígenas usan sus troncos y hojas para construir habitáculos.

Presenta un Fruto ovoide, de unos 4 cm de diámetro, de color marrón oscuro. Los racimos oscuros presentados en las imágenes son los frutos maduros (marrón chocolate o negro), estos no son comestibles para los humanos, aunque si pueden ser utilizados para la producción de aceites y artesanías, son parte fundamental del ciclo de vida de la planta y suelen ser muy pesados, lo que le da esa apariencia robusta y fértil.

Es una palmera de crecimiento más bien lento. Pues, desde que vivo en esta zona hace ya muchos años estas palmeras están en esta avenida dando belleza a la misma.

En zonas libres de heladas se las puede ver plantadas en alineaciones, o formando grupos a diferentes niveles. Resulta excelente como ejemplar solitario por su espigada belleza. Buena para decorar patios y terrazas en su estado juvenil. En interiores muy iluminados también se la puede plantar, pero no es tan habitual.

En cuanto a su Cultivo

Exposición soleada incluso desde joven. No soporta heladas aunque puede resistir hasta -4ºC las plantas adultas y adaptadas. Se cultiva al exterior en muchas regiones mediterráneas. Tolera suelos pobres, aunque prefiere suelos fértiles y bien drenados. Si hay que extraerla del suelo es preciso hacerlo con mucho esmero, puesto que es difícil el trasplante, se muere si pierde el cepellón de tierra.Se multiplica por semillas que tardan en germinar.

Today I'm sharing something about the Bismarck Palm. Interesting and precise information; it's quite a fascinating world, and I can now call it by its recognized name, in honor of Prince Otto von Bismarck, the first German Chancellor.

This beautiful palm, which I love for the color of its fronds, is described in research as a silvery blue. To me, it's a combination of green, blue, and silver. When the sun hits them, their beauty is spectacular. A metallic or silvery tone that stands out against the common green.
