Will the next 5 football matches score more goals than the last 5? That's the whole game. Pick Higher or Lower before the first kickoff. Get it right — survive. Get it wrong — eliminated. Last player standing wins the pool.

Another one from @talesfrmthecrypt

This contest is another brainchild of @talesfrmthecrypt, the same mind behind IPL Boundary Blackjack — the cricket contest that genuinely put Sportsblock on the map. That one taught us that sports fans don't need ten-team accumulators or spread bets or blockchain jargon. They want a clean mechanic, a real decision, and their MEDALS on the line.

Higher or Lower is cut from the same cloth. Tales pitched it like this:

"5 results from yesterday as your starting point. To make it interesting you pick as many different leagues as possible — so Arsenal v Bournemouth, Aberdeen v Hibs, Sociedad v Alavés, Dortmund v Leverkusen, Cagliari v Cremonese. Total goals = 13. Players then guess whether total goals in the next set of 5 matches will be higher or lower."

That's it. That's the game. We built it.

How a round works

You see 5 fixtures from the world's biggest leagues — Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, and beyond. You see one number: the total goals scored in the previous 5 matches.

Your call:

⬆ Higher — these 5 will produce more goals
⬇ Lower — these 5 will produce fewer

Lock your pick before the first kickoff. The round resolves once all 5 matches finish.

Right call → survive to the next round
Wrong call → eliminated
Exact tie (actual = baseline) → survive (the house never wins)
No pick submitted → eliminated

The next round's baseline becomes the goal total of the round you just played. So a 4-1 thriller followed by four 0-0s sets a low bar — and the next 5 picks are wide open again.

The endgame

This is Last Man Standing. Rounds keep rolling until only one player remains alive — and that player takes the entire prize pool.

If everyone busts on the same round? Those last survivors split the pool equally. No one walks home empty-handed for surviving longer.

Buy-backs — second chances cost MEDALS

Eliminated and gutted? You get up to 2 buy-backs per contest. Pay the buy-back fee in MEDALS and you're back in for the next round, ready to pick again. Your buy-back MEDALS go straight into the prize pool.

Burn both buy-backs in week one, though, and there's no coming back from a third elimination.

The first competition is live — 100 MEDALS entry, 5 rounds across 5 days, fixtures from Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Süper Lig and more. Round 1 deadline: 3pm BST, 18 April.
