Hermosú is still ill
It was a false alarm to think that my little cat was fine and healthy; the injuries he sustained two weeks ago had serious consequences that manifested overnight. It is true that he had been limping for several days and, out of ignorance, I thought that with a painkiller and anti-inflammatory he would be fine, as I mentioned last Saturday. He even managed to climb the big tree in the garden after several attempts, but from one day to the next he woke up very ill and I knew it was serious.
That day he didn’t give me his usual morning meow—which in his language means ‘Hello Mum, I’m hungry’—and he didn’t even get up from the piece of furniture where I found him. When I went over to say hello, I noticed a large lump on his neck or shoulder; I touched it gently and it didn’t seem to hurt him. To cheer him up, I served him his food and he came down normally without limping, but he looked uncomfortable.
Hermosú sigue enfermo
Fue una falsa alarma pensar que mi gatito estaba bien y saludable, las heridas que recibió hace dos semanas tuvieron consecuencias graves que se manifestaron de la noche a la mañana, si es cierto que él estuvo cojeando por varios días y que por ignorancia pensé que con un analgésico - desinflamatorio estaría bien como reseñé el sábado pasado, incluso llegó a subir el árbol grande del patio después de varios intentos, pero de un día para otro amaneció muy enfermo y supe que era grave.
Ese día no me dio su maullido matutino que en su lengua significa un “Hola mamá tengo hambre” ni siquiera se levantó del mueble donde lo encontré. Cuando fui a saludarlo observe una bola grande en su cuello o su hombro se lo toqué suavemente y no parecía dolerle, para animarlo le serví su comida y se bajó normal sin cojera, pero se le veía un semblante incómodo.
Without a second thought, I got dressed and emptied my wallet, which I used as a bag to take Hermosu to the vet. Thank God, the Hive Power Down I’d activated specifically for him had already arrived—another thing I’m grateful to Hive for.
It was the first time the cat had left the house. For the first few blocks, he peeked out and everything was fine, but when we reached the main road where there are more vehicles—mostly heavy goods vehicles, which made the noise worse—the kitten got very nervous, and I thought it might be a bit too much for me. The bus passed quickly and was empty, and Hermosú watched everything curiously through the gap in my bag; every loud noise made him hide, and after a while he’d peek out again. I had to hold him tight to stop him from slipping away and running off.
Sin pensarlo dos veces me vestí y vacié mi cartera que me sirvió de bolso para llevar a Hermosu al veterinario, gracias a Dios ya me había llegado el Power Down de hive que tengo activo precisamente para él, otra cosa que agradezco a Hive.
Era la primera vez que el gato salía de casa, las primeras cuadras se asomaba y todo iba bien, pero al llegar a la carretera nacional donde pasan más vehículos y la mayoría de carga pesada aumentando el ruido, el gatito se puso muy nervioso y pensé que sería una salida algo fuerte para mí. El autobús pasó rápido y estaba vacío y Hermosú veía con curiosidad todo por el hueco de la cartera, cada ruido fuerte lo hacía ocultarse y al rato se volvía asomar, me tocó agarrarlo duro para evitar que se me escapará y saliera corriendo.
I took him to the same vet who had saved my dog Duke’s life on two occasions: when he fractured both hips and when he was poisoned. In the surgery were the vet and a young veterinary student. The vet gave him a general check-up, confirmed he was a male by his large testicles 🤣, listened to his chest and said he was breathing fine. He felt the lump on his neck and told me it didn’t seem to be hurting him, but he needed to check what it was—it could be blood or pus—so he put on gloves with his assistant and pricked it with a needle. What we saw next left us all stunned.
A jet of pus came out under a lot of pressure and at the same time the cat screamed loudly and I screamed along with him out of reflex or nerves 😱😫🤭 I don’t know. Once the pus had stopped coming out naturally, the vet pressed the area and it kept coming out until it was finished, but there was another spot on his neck. 😭 By that point, Hermosú had bitten or scratched my arms and the vets’ gloves were torn.
Lo llevé al mismo veterinario que en dos ocasiones le salvó la vida a mi perro Duke, cuando se fracturó ambas caderas y cuando se intoxicó. En el consultorio estaba el doctor y una joven pasante de veterinaria. El médico lo revisó de forma general, certifico que es macho por sus grandes testículos 🤣 lo auscultó y dijo que respiraba bien, le tocó la masa en su cuello y me dijo parecía que no le dolía, pero debía comprobar que era, podía ser sangre o pus, así que se puso guantes junto a su ayudante y le pinchó con una aguja, lo que vimos después nos dejó impresionados a todos.
Salió con mucha presión un chorro de pus y al mismo tiempo el gato gritó fuerte y yo lo acompañé en el grito por reflejo o nervios 😱😫🤭 no lo sé. Una vez que dejó de salir el pus de manera natural el doctor le apretó la zona y seguía saliendo hasta que se acabó, pero le faltaba otro lugar en el cuello. 😭 Para ese momento Hermosú me había mordido o rasguñado los brazos y los guantes de los doctores estaban rotos.
This time the doctor brought out a cat muzzle that was too big for him, but better something than nothing. We got ready and he pricked him again; I forgot to mention that before pricking him, he shaved the area and disinfected it. The second time was harder; once the pus stopped coming out and blood started to come out, the doctor decided to leave him be.
In total, two syringes of pus were extracted, though between the nerves and the scratches, I only managed to take a photo of one. They cleaned the wounds with hydrogen peroxide and I put him in the bag; then I washed all my own wounds with soap and alcohol. I felt a great sense of relief taking him to the vet; I couldn’t imagine how he must have felt with all that pus.
Esta vez el doctor sacó un bozal para gatos que le quedaba grande, pero es mejor algo que nada. Nos preparamos y lo volvió a pinchar, se me olvidó mencionar que antes de punzarlo le afeito la zona y desinfectó. La segunda vez fue más difícil una vez que dejó de salir pus y comenzó a salir sangre el doctor decidió dejarlo tranquilo.
En total se le extrajo dos inyectadoras de pus, solo que entre los nervios y rasguños solo saque foto a una. Le limpiaron las heridas con agua oxigenada y lo metí en el bolso, luego me lave con jabón y alcohol todas las heridas que yo tenía. Sentí un gran alivio al llevarlo al médico, no me imaginó cómo se sentía con ese pus.
The doctor said he’d been very brave, that he’s a brave little lad, and prescribed antibiotics for 15 days, along with painkillers and anti-inflammatories. He also mentioned that if it started growing again during that time, he’d have to put him under anaesthetic and open it up 😮💨😪. I went straight from the surgery to a chemist’s to buy the antibiotics.
I spent exactly the $50 I’d saved up from my hives. His mood improved enormously; he wanted to jump out of the bag and even gave me a mischievous look to let me know he was annoyed, heh heh heh. The following days were very stressful.

El médico dijo que se había portado muy bien, que es valiente y le mandó antibióticos por 15 días, un remedio para el dolor y para desinflamar, también mencionó que si le volvía a crecer en esos días tendría que colocarle anestesia y abrirlo 😮💨😪. Salí de la consulta directo a una farmacia a comprarle el antibiótico.
Justo los 50 $ que había reunido con mis hives fue lo que gasté. Su estado de ánimo mejoró enormemente, quería lanzarse del bolso y hasta con su mirada pícara me hizo saber que estaba molesto je, je, je. Los días siguientes fueron muy estresantes.
