Bandera Negra ¡Por segunda vez! [ESP-ENG]

Después de los bombazos del 3 de enero en Venezuela, muchos eventos festivos se suspendieron en honor a un presidente que nadie quiere ni querrá jamás. En fin, eso no duró mucho. Hay una festividad a la que ya había asistido en el año 2025, y esa es la denominada "Bandera negra". Hay calipso, agua para empapar a la gente y ¿por qué no? ¡Muchas cervezas!

Bueno, el asunto fue que, debido a la captura inesperada de un bigotón dictador, todos pensamos que dicha "bandera negra" iba a ser suspendida. ¿Pero adivinen qué? No se suspendió, 😂.

Invité a una amiga del gym, a mi prima y a mi hermano para asistir al bochinche ese. Un amigo que vive en el pueblo de Santa Bárbara, lugar de origen del evento de la bandera negra, me dijo que por diversas situaciones la festividad iniciaría a las diez de la mañana. A esa hora nos fuimos, y desde esa hora anduvimos de forasteros. La primera sorpresa, no tan agradable, fue que no era necesario llegar tan temprano a un evento que comenzó a las tres de la tarde (😖).

Había calor, hambre, y una muchedumbre que esperaba ansiosa a que empezara el bochinche. Menos mal compré unas palomitas de maiz para aguantar un poco. Otro de los pormenores fue que, a diferencia de los años anteriores, no iba a haber la misma cantidad de carrozas tocando calipso. Todo se hizo mucho más minimalista, simple y diría yo, un tanto mezquino... ya les cuento por qué.

Fue mezquino porque tampoco arrojaron la misma cantidad de agua a los que, en procesión, marchaban por las calles bailando con tremendo, ¡léase bien! Tremendo sol achicharrando el mundo. O sea, para un calor tan sofocante y un bululú de personas concentradas en las avenidas angostas, un chorrito de agua en lugar de refrescar lo que hace es apresurar el punto de ebullición en la piel. (😩)

El año pasado la cosa fue mejor, este del 2026 fue, por no decir malo, una excusa barata. Más allá de eso, debo admitir que disfruté el rato con mis acompañantes. Bromeamos mucho, y al final terminamos cansados y hambrientos.

La mejor parte de esta Bandera Negra 2026 fue cuando nos fuimos y aterrizamos a comer pollo en un restaurante. Ojalá el año que viene, sea mejor 😁.

_Febrero 2026_

Llegamos a la casa de nuestro amigo como a eso de las 10:00 am. Nuestros rostros parecían alegres, ¿verdad?

Eran las 3:00 pm. Ya a esa hora, la comparsa había iniciado por las calles del pueblo, al ritmo del calipso.

A las 5:00 pm, estábamos agotados y los pies dolían.

Caída la noche, la bandera negra ya estaba a punto de culminar. El punto de llegada nos recibió con una tarima y la presentación de las bandas de calipso.

A la izquierda, cansancio y hambre, a la derecha, ¡a comer para minimizar el hambre! Jajaja

Nada mejor que una cena en familia para culminar el día.

Y eso es todo. Viendolo bien, a pesar de tantos "contras", el asunto no estuvo tan malo. 😂

ENGLISH VERSION

After the January 3rd bombings in Venezuela, many festive events were suspended in honor of a president no one wants and never will. Anyway, that didn't last long. There's one celebration I'd already attended in 2025, and that's called the "Black Flag" festival. There's calypso music, water to soak people, and why not? Lots of beer!

Well, the thing is, due to the unexpected capture of a Bogota Big-mustachioed dictator, we all thought that the "Black Flag" festival was going to be canceled. But guess what? It wasn't canceled, 😂.

I invited a friend from the gym, my cousin, and my brother to attend this big party. A friend who lives in the town of Santa Bárbara, the birthplace of the Black Flag event, told me that due to various circumstances, the festivities would start at ten in the morning. We left at that time, and from then on, we were like strangers. The first surprise, not so pleasant, was that it wasn't necessary to arrive so early for an event that started at three in the afternoon (😖).

It was hot, I was hungry, and there was a crowd anxiously waiting for the festivities to begin. Luckily, I bought some popcorn to tide me over. Another detail was that, unlike previous years, there weren't going to be the same number of floats playing calypso. Everything was much more minimalist, simple, and I would say, a bit stingy... I'll tell you why.

It was stingy because they also didn't throw the same amount of water on those who, in procession, marched through the streets dancing under a tremendous, and I mean tremendous, sun scorching the world. I mean, with such stifling heat and a huge crowd of people crammed into the narrow avenues, a little splash of water, instead of cooling you down, only accelerates the boiling point of your skin. (😩)

Last year was better, this year's 2026 was, to say the least, a lame excuse. Beyond that, I must admit I enjoyed spending time with my companions. We joked around a lot, and in the end, we were tired and hungry.

The best part of this Black Flag 2026 was when we left and landed at a restaurant to eat chicken. Hopefully, next year will be better 😁.

_February 2026_

We arrived at our friend's house around 10:00 am. We looked happy, didn't we?

It was 3:00 pm. By that time, the parade had already begun its procession through the town's streets, to the rhythm of calypso.

By 5:00 pm, we were exhausted and our feet hurt.

As night fell, the black flag was about to be lowered. The finish line greeted us with a stage and performances by calypso bands.

On the left, tiredness and hunger; on the right, time to eat to minimize hunger! Hahaha

Nothing beats a family dinner to end the day.

And that's it. Looking back, despite so many "downsides," it wasn't so bad after all. 😂
