Rare Silver Hoffman & Hoffman

As I promised @silvertop, it’s time to bring out something a little different from the Hoffman & Hoffman world.
Most of us already know the 1981 Unicorn and the Alchemy Star Hexagon 1 oz .999 fine silver rounds. Those pieces are well‑known for a reason. With fewer than 5,000 minted, they’re already considered scarce, and they carry that unmistakable Hoffman & Hoffman look that stackers and collectors like.
The reverse on those rounds is almost plain on purpose: ONE OZ FINE SILVER .999+ and 1981. That’s it. No extra symbols, nothing trying to steal attention. You can tell it’s Hoffman & Hoffman the moment you see it... simple, bold, and instantly recognizable.

But today’s piece steps outside that familiar lane. This one is a Liberty Eagle Hoffman & Hoffman silver round, and it’s a whole different level of rare.

According to Allengelhard, fewer than 1,000 of these silver rounds were minted. That puts it in a category where most collectors will only ever see photos, not the real thing. When you’re dealing with numbers that low, you’re not just looking at a collectible, you’re looking at something that barely made it into the market at all.

Now, I’ll say it: the stylized leaping unicorn with the alchemy star is still my personal favorite. It’s the design most people think of when they hear “Hoffman & Hoffman,” and it has that quirky, almost mystical charm that made their early rounds stand out.

Rarity has a way of standing on its own. And in that category, the Liberty Eagle takes the lead without much effort. It’s the kind of piece that makes this hobby stay exciting!
