15 April 2026, Freewriters Community Daily Writing Prompt Day 3074: a quick nap
When Morning Never Came
As the sun was setting, he closed his eyes, knowing that tomorrow would be a new day, when he would get up before the sun rose, as his days always started with the moon still high. He knew that dreams would consume him, as they always did, and even though they might be frightening and dark, they were indeed not real and nothing to worry about.
This was not another normal day, though, not another quick nap.
When he woke at around 3 a.m., a few minutes before his alarm was to go off and let him know it was time for the daily grind, he realized something. The sky was not the pale darkness it had been before. Instead, it was fully dark. Looking out his windows showed only pure blackness. Opening his door presented him with no sound, no breeze, no smells, and no sense of anything other than nothing.
It must be a dream. It always is.
He went to the bathroom. He switched off the lights.
When the alarm eventually did go off, it was the same. Dark. Black. Nothing.
Yet, he was fully awake...
