Finished the "Laundry" at Last!

When we moved into this place, it HAD laundry, but it wasn't even good enough to put in the real estate photos and we removed it, including the walls, in favour of having more space, or at least the illusion of it. After removing the walls, two cupboards, sanding the floors and painting the walls, we ended up with an open space and the washing machine and fridge against the side wall opposite the kitchen.
The plan was always to put the washing machine in cupboards, even though it's not really the done thing in Australia. In fact, Aussie regs say you're meant to have a separate laundry sink and the floor waterproofed. Blah blah blah. This is our house so we will do what the fuck we want. Like this:

That's the view from the kitchen sink. No way were we putting TWO sinks in that space. I mean, if we go to sell one day and are forced to, we can still put a sink there.
The cabinets are from IKEA and the bemchtop is from Bunnings, coated with Fiddes hard wax oil. I bloody LOVE it. And suddenly I have TONS more storage space. Yay.
I put the prints of two of our favourite landscapes... A sketch of part of our coastline and a photo of Glastonbury Tor.

The washing machine sits in the centre cupboards. We had to cut down an 800 mm cupboard to 700 mm and get a 300 mm and a 400 mm door so that the drawers, the washing machine cupboard and the 'sink' cupboard all fit in a row. By the way, how nice is that winter light?

Most of the cleaning stuff is kept in the bathroom where I have heaps of cupboard space. But in the right hand cupboard I can fit the laundry sheets (I use these instead of powder or liquid - less mess and better for environment) and a collapsible laundry basket and another laundry basket. So I do feel I have enough room for everything in my micro laundry! If I need to soak things they can go into the bathroom sink or a bucket in the bath/shower or on the deck. It works for us!
Isn't it beautiful with the winter light coming in?

Who needs a huge laundry π§Ί, right??
