Many people quietly ask this question, especially when they feel unworthy or far from God. However, the Bible gives a comforting answer to it.
From the beginning, God has shown mercy to those who fall short. In Psalm 34:18, the Bible says “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” ,this means God does not run away from sinners rather, He draws near to them when they are humble and repentant. Sin may separate us from God but it does not remove His desire to protect and restore us.
A powerful example is the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11–32) even after wasting his life in sin, when he returned home, his father welcomed him with open arms. This shows that God’s protection is not only for the righteous but also for those who turn back to Him.
However, God’s protection is not a license to continue in sin. Proverbs 28:13 reminds us that “whoever conceals their sins does not prosper but the one who confesses shall finds mercy”. True protection comes when a sinner acknowledges their wrongs and seeks God sincerely.
Jesus Christ is the greatest proof of this protection. He came to save sinners not condemn them that through Him, we can receive forgiveness, grace and a new beginning. In Christ even the worst sinner can find refuge.
