Serravalle is a very large municipality, and one of the places I was most curious to see is Castellina, one of the mountainous parts of this city. As you know, I really like mountainous areas and nature. To get to Castellina, the road starts from the Serravalle road and then winds up the mountains. For some, it may be a bad road because it's not easy to navigate, but it's a very beautiful road. Castellina, as its name suggests, was in ancient times a castle or defensive fortress located on the Serravalle pass. It was surrounded by walls, now no longer standing, and was an excellent town for spotting enemies because it was located on top of a mountain. Today, it's a nearly uninhabited place, with a few scattered houses and a few inhabitants, but it's not yet abandoned, also because it's a place loved by those who love the mountains and mountain trails. There are several here, but they're quite rugged.

However, it is a village with medieval origins that dates back to the Lombard invasion when there were a series of fortifications in the area. In fact, others can be found in the surrounding area and the Rocca di Serravalle itself was the largest fortification in the area still well preserved.

Serravalle es un municipio muy grande, y uno de los lugares que más curiosidad tenía por ver es Castellina, una de las zonas montañosas de este municipio. Como saben, me encantan las zonas montañosas y la naturaleza. Para llegar a Castellina, el camino comienza en la carretera de Serravalle y luego serpentea montaña arriba. Para algunos, puede ser un camino difícil porque no es fácil de recorrer, pero es un camino muy bonito. Castellina, como su nombre indica, fue en la antigüedad un castillo o fortaleza defensiva ubicada en el paso de Serravalle. Estaba rodeada de murallas, ahora desaparecidas, y era un excelente punto de observación para los enemigos porque estaba situada en la cima de una montaña. Hoy en día, es un lugar casi deshabitado, con algunas casas dispersas y pocos habitantes, pero aún no está abandonado, también porque es un lugar querido por los amantes de las montañas y los senderos de montaña. Hay varios aquí, pero son bastante escarpados.

Sin embargo, se trata de un pueblo de origen medieval que se remonta a la invasión lombarda, cuando existían varias fortificaciones en la zona. De hecho, se pueden encontrar otras en los alrededores, y la Rocca di Serravalle era la mayor fortificación de la zona que aún se conserva en buen estado.

It's a shame the weather was a bit gloomy, but I still liked the road to Castellina. It has a very dark, wild nature, made up of thick forests and trees. As you gradually climb, you can also admire the view of the Nievole Valley (it would certainly have been better on a sunny day). After these winding roads, you arrive at the village, which is truly small, a charming medieval village nestled between the mountains and nature. Today, practically the entire village develops around the church of Saints Philip and James, another small medieval stone church. The entire village, like the rest of the village, is made up of narrow stone lanes and very steep streets. Of course, there are also some clusters of houses, small and a bit neglected but typical and in keeping with the place. After exploring the village and its surroundings, we headed back down into the valley, and the road is still very beautiful, with a view at the end of the road even of the fields surrounding Serravalle. I hope you enjoyed coming with me to this somewhat remote but nevertheless fascinating place.

Es una pena que el tiempo estuviera un poco gris, pero aun así me gustó el camino a Castellina. Tiene una naturaleza muy oscura y salvaje, formada por densos bosques y árboles. A medida que se asciende, también se puede admirar la vista del valle de Nievole (sin duda habría sido mejor en un día soleado). Tras estas carreteras sinuosas, se llega al pueblo, que es realmente pequeño, un encantador pueblo medieval enclavado entre las montañas y la naturaleza. Hoy en día, prácticamente todo el pueblo se desarrolla alrededor de la iglesia de los Santos Felipe y Santiago, otra pequeña iglesia medieval de piedra. Todo el pueblo, como el resto de la zona, está formado por estrechas callejuelas de piedra y calles muy empinadas. Por supuesto, también hay algunos grupos de casas, pequeñas y algo descuidadas, pero típicas y acordes con el lugar. Después de explorar el pueblo y sus alrededores, descendimos de nuevo al valle, y el camino sigue siendo muy bonito, con vistas al final incluso a los campos que rodean Serravalle. Espero que hayan disfrutado acompañándome a este lugar algo remoto pero no por ello menos fascinante.
