The former airport, now the Faculty of science. | El antiguo aeropuerto, ahora facultad de ciencias.

Gratos saludod tengan todos mis queridos amigos de esta linda comunidad de Lifestyle, como me encanta visitar lugares historicos y poder nutrirme de su historia en medio de tanta cotidianidad, hoy les quiero mostrar este espacio fantástico.

Warm greetings to all my dear friends in this lovely Lifestyle community. As I love visiting historic places and soaking up their history amidst the daily grind, today I’d like to show you this fantastic spot.

Junto con mi hermano emprendí un paseo largo justamente inició, en la avenida principal del Milagro, esperando en la parada del bus de 5 de Julio para poder ir hacia la facultad experimental de ciencias, esta facultad es la de la Universidad del Zulia es donde se dan las ciencias puras de física, matemática, química, biología y antropología, que anteriormente era sede del antiguo aeropuerto de la ciudad de Maracaibo, mejor conocido como el aeropuerto de grano de oro debido a un fatídico accidente, todo cambió en verdad, la ruta del bus fue bastante rápida porque tienden a ir muy rápido, llegamos hasta la facultad de ciencias y pudimos tomar diversas fotografías a su, fachada externa, ya que no habían clases egulares y nos daba miedo poder ingresar.

Together with my brother, I set off on a long walk; we started right on Milagro’s main avenue, waiting at the 5 de Julio bus stop to head to the Experimental Faculty of Sciences. This faculty, part of the University of Zulia, is where the pure sciences physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology and anthropology are taught. It was previously the site of the old airport in the city of Maracaibo, better known as the Grano de Oro Airport due to a fateful accident. Everything really did change. The bus journey was quite quick, as they tend to drive very fast. We arrived at the Faculty of Sciences and were able to take several photographs of its exterior façade, as there were no regular classes and we were afraid to go inside.

Bien, a pesar de que gran parte de la fachada puede de cierta manera fue adaptada, la edificación guarda esa antigua esencia del primer aeropuerto de la ciudad de Maracaibo, estos terrenos fueron cedidos completamente a la ilustre Universidad del Zulia, podemos ver que en la parte de atrás de la Facultad de Ciencias aún se observan las letras grandes de Maracaibo, por donde, salían caminando los pasajeros para poder montar cada uno de los aviones que se dirigían a los distintos destino, a pesar de que esta área esté cubierta con mucha maleza debido a la falta de mantenimiento del lugar, gran parte de ella refleja esa esencia de ya casi 57 años que han transcurrido desde que funcionaba este antiguo aeropuerto, estas letras siguen intactas recordándonos esa esencia.

Well, although much of the façade has, to some extent, been adapted, the building retains that old-world charm of Maracaibo’s first airport. These grounds were handed over entirely to the illustrious University of Zulia; we can see that at the rear of the Faculty of Sciences, the large letters spelling out ‘Maracaibo’ are still visible, from where passengers used to walk out to board the various planes bound for different destinations. Although this area is overgrown with weeds due to a lack of maintenance, much of it still reflects the spirit of the nearly 57 years that have passed since this old airport was in operation; these letters remain intact, reminding us of that spirit.

Pero te preguntarás qué fue lo que ¿pasó?en este lugar que llevó al cierre completo del aeropuerto resulta ser que el 16/03/1969, justamente a las 11 de la mañana, salía un vuelo desde Maracaibo con escala a Maiquetía para posteriormente ir hacia la ciudad de Orlando en Florida. El avión llegó aproximadamente las 10:30 de la mañana a cargar combustible y este aparentemente había chocado con algunos árboles el cual produjo un desperfecto mecánico el avión pudo cargar de cierto combustible, pero. Al momento de despegar, el mismo no pudo mantenerse en el aire, se produjeron diversos tipos de perfectos mecánicos, como también se dice que la pista a ese determinado avión le quedaba de cierta manera muy corta.

But you might be wondering what actually happened here that led to the airport being completely closed. It turns out that on 16 March 1969, at exactly 11 o’clock in the morning, a flight was departing from Maracaibo with a stopover in Maiquetía, before continuing on to Orlando in Florida. The plane arrived at around 10.30 am to refuel, and it appears to have struck some trees, causing mechanical damage. The plane was able to take on some fuel, but upon take-off, it was unable to stay airborne; various mechanical failures occurred, and it is also said that the runway was, in a sense, too short for that particular aircraft.

Este fatidico accidente conllevo que el avión al no alcanzar sus alturas se estrellera justamente en el sector de Ziruma causando la muerte de 185 personas en su totalidad los cuales 86 eran de sus tripulantes el resto de avitanres en tierra, apesar que después de esto por unos meses el aeropuerto siguió funcionando fue justamente cerrado y en ese mismo año se inagura el aeropuerto de la Chinita, estos espacios fueron cedidos por completo a la Universidad del Zulia, como facultad de ciencias la Universidad realizo ciertad modificaciones de adaptación para sus alumnos pero la fachada es casi la misma por completo.

This tragic accident meant that, as the aircraft failed to reach its cruising altitude, it crashed in the Ziruma area, killing all 185 people on board 86 of whom were crew members, with the rest being passengers on the ground. Although the airport continued to operate for a few months after the accident, it was subsequently closed, and La Chinita Airport was opened that same year. These premises were transferred in their entirety to the University of Zulia. As a science faculty, the University carried out certain modifications to adapt the building for its students, but the façade remains almost entirely unchanged.

Por ultimo este lugar en la actualidad es un espacio que forma a los jóvenes en sus ciencias puras dedir que es la facultad de la Universidad del Zulia más rica en historia, apesar de que requiere mas mantenimiento es bastante hermosa e incluso posee en su frente una plaza donde puedes sentarme en bancas de madera como también tiene su gran mural de identificación, espero mis queridos amigos esta publicación te haya gustado por completo nos vemos en una próxima oportunidad hasta pronto.

Finally, this place is now a space that educates young people in the pure sciences; it is, in fact, the faculty of the University of Zulia with the richest history. Although it is in need of more maintenance, it is quite beautiful and even has a square in front of it where you can sit on wooden benches, as well as a large mural representing the university.
