In the Face of War: Duty or Family First?

Every once in two week, I’m forced to believe that the world would be going to war soon- probably this world war- because there’s always something two countries are fighting about. Over the past 5 years, we’ve seen how wars have become rampant over the world and the number of lives that have been lost to these wars.

It’s heart breaking to see people lose their lives for nothing they know of or have no part to play in. But sadly, when such things happen those who are guilty don’t pay the price but the innocent citizens have to carry the burden for their leaders. As a Ghanaian, we always play about most things because I mean, life is too short to be fighting a war you’re not ready for. First of all, Ghana is the last country you’d expect to even go to war with another country because we don’t even have the technology and means to make that happen. If Ghana were to go to war with say Iran or Russia, we’d probably be wiped out in a day if we don’t get help from anywhere. And sadly, it’s the truth even if we don’t want to believe it.

In any case, if Ghana should decide to go to war with any country or countries, I know I’m not joining the army. Not because I’m not a patriotic citizen but because I know I’m not cut out for it. Even if I would want to join the army, it’s not when the country is at the brink of or at war. I would have no skills to help my country in this situation so instead of walking into a dying situation, I’d rather let those who have been trained for such things take to the battle field.

What I would do is make sure myself , my family and loved ones are safe and okay before anything else. And how would I achieve that? I’d make sure to see her a safe space probably underground or some place remote, stock it with basic needs such as water, food, drugs and clothing and bedding to keep us warm. Then , we put measures in place to make sure the place is extra secure in case someone wants to try to attack us. Next, we’d get some weapons to protect ourselves because you never know what can befall you in such times and you need to be always ready for the worst.

After all this is said and done, I’d make sure to get all my family, friends and loved ones together and move to this secure location of ours for safety until whenever our leaders decide to stop fighting. Honestly, the worst part of war to me is innocent people having to die for nothing or for a cause they don’t even believe in. I thought we are all human, so why can’t we live together as each other’s keeper? But hey, some people always care only about themselves and their selfish interests and that’s leads us to such heartbreaking situations-sadly. In all you do, make sure to keep yourself and your loved ones safe before anything else because even the one instigating this war has taken his family to safety.
