Caring for Myself While I’m Healthy

It’s in human nature for us to fall sick at least once in a while. But what’s not normal is falling sick all the time- that should tell you something is wrong somewhere and I believe the biggest determinant of your health is your lifestyle and your environment. Most of the pandemics and epidemics we have had to live through are thanks to our lifestyle.
I’m not really the type to fall sick all the time. It could probably be genetics because there were times I totally neglected my health, both physically and mentally and I started going down that slippery slope. It’s been a long way coming and now, I view life from a different perspective which has improved life drastically. I believe life is about balance- balance between your work, your social life, and everything about you. Make time for what is worth it.
Personally, I’ve been able to identify the few things that I know could either make or ruin my health and working on keeping those in check has helped with my health even with my busy schedule. The first one is rest. I used to be someone who has about two hours of sleep a day which is averagely very bad- and so I worked on that. On a good day, I sleep for 4-5 hours and when I have the chance, I sleep for more hours because sleeps hep improve your mood, your sharpness and general lifestyle.
The next is what I eat. As someone who’s not much of an eater , I’ve struggled so much with my eating habits which led me to coming down peptic ulcer. I could eat once a day and not really feel hungry which is not normal for an average person. So I made a mental note to make time to eat at least 2 meals a day with snacks in between. It’s hard, but I’m trying and I can say it’s really helping a lot.

The last things I’d talk about is leisure time and relaxation. For someone who’s always hustling, I do love having fun which I don’t get much. I used to think it was due to work and all but I knew if I wanted to make time for it, I will- and so I did. I’ve been going out more on solo dates and also with my friends. I’ve been speaking to people more, reaching out, making plans and also having my personal time. Going forward, I’m looking to having a hobby I actually love which would most definitely be swimming.
These days, I feel more lighter, happier and sharper. And this is all thanks to taking care of myself. No one is gonna do it for you. So do it for yourself!
