York was a tireless worker. He worked 14 hours a day operating his beloved crane, swinging the heavy demolition ball against old structures until they crumbled to pieces. His passion was so great that they nicknamed him “The Destroyer.”
For him, his job wasn’t just a job; it was euphoria amid rubble and dust. He loved the sound of concrete giving way, the creaking of steel, and watching an entire building collapse.
One Tuesday, the boss gathered the crew to make an important announcement. He announced that due to a new corporate policy, everyone’s weekly pay would be cut in half.
Because of this, the workers erupted in fury. Insults flew, they threw their hard hats on the ground, and threatened to go on strike.
However, unlike the rest, York stood apart, leaning against his crane. While his colleagues shouted, he looked at the house he was supposed to tear down.
“Get paid half? It doesn’t matter,” he said.
York’s real reward wasn’t the money. He loved tearing down buildings. As long as they let him keep doing it, he didn’t see any problem with having his pay cut.
