| My cousin found her near his workplace, in an abandoned warehouse where many stray kittens would go for shelter. He and several of his coworkers helped them whenever they could by providing water and food, and taking them to the vet when necessary. During the month of May, they saw that one of the cats, who they thought was already spayed, had her kittens there. | During that first weekend in his room, my cousin sent us videos of how the little creature moved. We did some research and found information about a neurological disorder kittens can be born with when the mother has suffered severe malnutrition or hosted a virus during pregnancy. This disorder, called Cerebellar Hypoplasia, causes the cerebellum to develop poorly during gestation and mainly affects the kittens' sense of balance. We found very useful information and social media accounts dedicated to spreading awareness about the disorder and tips on how to provide a good life for cats who have it. That's how we discovered it’s not something that can be cured—these are kittens that live their whole lives with tremors and a lack of balance—but they can enjoy a great quality of life if their caregivers take steps to adapt the environment to their special needs. | Cuando estuvo en su habitación el primer fin de semana, mi primo nos envió videos de cómo se movía la pequeña criatura. Nos dedicamos a investigar y encontramos información sobre un trastorno neurológico con el que pueden nacer los gatitos cuando la madre ha sufrido desnutrición severa y ha sido huésped de un virus durante el embarazo.
