ver the years, I’ve developed a few routines that, in my opinion, help me when I’m taking photos on the street. One of the most recent ones is to pass by the same spot several times. And it really works for me, because every time I do it, something different catches my eye.

on los años he ido adquiriendo algunas rutinas que, a mi entender, me ayudan a la hora de hacer fotos en la calle. Una de las más recientes es pasar varias veces por el mismo lugar. Y mira que me funciona, porque cada vez que lo hago aparece algo distinto.

I hardly have to walk as far anymore, which is a relief given how hot it’s been lately. I pass by two or three times, observe, and then move on to another spot. That’s how I met this gentleman, Evelio. He had just stepped out onto the porch to soak up some sun, and without really meaning to, he ended up modeling for a while.

Ya casi no tengo que caminar tanto, cosa que se agradece con el calor de estos días. Paso dos o tres veces, observo, y luego sigo hacia otro sitio. Así fue como conocí a este señor, Evelio. Apenas había salido al portal a tomar el sol y, sin proponérselo mucho, terminó siendo modelo por un rato.

Around here they also call her La Condesa; from a distance she shouts at me: “Photographer, take my picture—I deserve it!”… and I, of course, wait for the moment when she walks by in all her glamour.

Por aquí también le llaman La Condesa, desde lejos me grita: “¡Fotógrafo, hazme mi retrato, que me lo merezco!”… y yo, claro, esperando el momento en que pase con todo su glamour.

Cats are always around. So far I haven’t seen one I don’t like to photograph; they have something special. And just when I thought I’d seen it all, this rooster shows up, just like that, calmly, right in the middle of the sidewalk.

Los gatos siempre están presentes. Hasta ahora no he visto uno que no me guste fotografiar; tienen algo especial. Y cuando pensé que ya lo había visto todo, aparece este gallo, así, tranquilo, en plena acera.

And that’s how my morning went, from one thing to the next, until I decided I’d had enough for the day. It was really hot… and my sister was calling for me to come back and help her with some errands.

And así se me fue la mañana, entre una cosa y otra, hasta que decidí que ya era suficiente por el día. Mucho calor… y mi hermana llamando para que regresara a ayudarla con algunas gestiones.
