Hello Hive

I welcome you to my farm blog for the day and I hope that you all are having an amazing morning. It was one of the funniest experience yesterday watching the turkey birds in their mating position. It was as if the birds have a meeting to do this excercise on this particular day. From the picture here, you can see the male birds with their big feathers all opened up while the females who have lesser physique are seen shying away.

In this community and compound everyone has constructed their own small bird cage's for raising their birds. Everyone is tired of purchasing their meat from the market each time they need it. The price of chicken, beef and others have never been so friendly, Hence people figure out how they can assist themselves to these things.

The cages are mostly small but can accommodate 5-10Broiler birds or at least 3turkey birds. This is the number owned by each family and in instances where there is an expansion and the birds kays eggs and multiples, we can then enlarge the cage or build bigger one.

Bird's can be raised in different ways and with different feeds depending on the budget at hand. Some family feed their own birds to the left over food from their table. But this is after they have grown past the delicate childhood stages.
There are both the Agric turkey and the local ones here. And as much as they co habit together we try to avoid a cross breeding between the two types. The engineered ones have faster growth rate than the local ones and .ost times it is easier for those ones to lay eggs and expand on time compared to.
It's our first time of raising turkey birds and in this process we are leaning more about them, their lifestyle, lifecycle and the possibility of making a business out of this if everything works out eventually.
