Recently, there has been a huge shift in responsibilities; some giant fish got hired, and so did their responsibilities too. One of the most critical things about these giant fish is, if they are really qualified as they claim to be, then it's gonna be really fruit otherwise, that's a complete disaster. We have seen the disaster and are seeing the good one too right now.
So the thing is, after the departure of my immediate senior, I was left in a sea of responsibilities and was having a tough time managing everything. A few months passed, due to the extreme, I too learnt things faster, and had received some positive perks as well. It's more than a year and a half that I'm here and building stuff.
Now the new senior, he is definitely super qualified and has work experience. wider corporate environment. Apart from his own qualifications, he got some advanced tools as well that help him build stuff even faster and troubleshoot even better. So the combo kinda kills things left and right. And the management, they believe in visibility, getting highly valued responses from him, and so they too kind off prioritizing him mostly.

No issues, things got done from my end a little bit, no way I can be responsible for everything. Let things loose a little bit intentionally.
But let me tell you a few things, from what I have observed. My senior is good, his works are impresive as well, he has expertise in a vast amount of stuff. Whatever is thrown in his way, he tackles it, within a few days, which might need a week for me to crack. Yeah, not like I can't, surely I can, but might need a little longer and less perfect, and that's why the company is paying him much higher than me, right?
He was working on a project that I have contributed to for a long time, and he was assigned to migrate a few things to a new architecture. What he did was go a few extra miles, updating a few things and was showing off like, "these stuffs were backedated, or so I have updated these, now things are this much better than before." Yes, he did surely do something good, but today, while inspecting, I noticed that he had broken many things in many places while fixing somewhere else. The problem is, he has AI, surely better ones, and the focused stuff is done better, but any other dependencies that might get broken aren't in his knowledge, as he hasn't built this entire project from scratch. I did so I noticed that at my first glance. So the next time, when these areas of the project will be explored, things gonna fall apart. To be precise, I was fixing a bug and then discovered these, isn't it funny?
Well, it's not like he can't fix it, surely he can. It's about how he will be missing things while eating everything on the plate. His expertise is vast, he might be scoring 60% on anything thrown at him, maybe 80% on certain stuff of his comfort, but me? Might be only a few things that I have put my hands in, but those are deep, not less than 99%. So if his expertise is vast, mine are deep. Thats what I will be holding on to survive and grow even more, dig even deeper.
