Como para el cumpleaños de mi hijo menor, solo alcancé darle un almuerzo a su gusto y un pequeño pastel, cuando me preguntó si podía comprarle esta cajita de cartas Pokémon como regalo por su cumpleaños, no tuve corazón para decirle que no.
Justamente habían llegado a mi lugar de trabajo un día antes, y era motivo de curiosidad para los niños que apenas entraban las veían en el exhibidor, lo cual sucedió también con mi hijo, que últimamente se ha vuelto un fan de los videos que salen en youtube, además de la serie.
Cuando vio las 9 cajas que trajeron, empezó a insistir en que quería una de esas, y cuando me alegó que no le había dado un regalo por su fecha especia, me terminó de convencer, ahora el problema para él fue elegir una de esas, pues realmente están lindas todas, y al solo poder ver una carta desde afuera, era imposible saber cual maso era más conveniente.
Finalmente se decidió por la caja que traía a Calyrex, un Pokémon parecido a un conejo legendario, pues según él, es uno de los poderosos. Me impresiona que reconoce a todos (o casi todos) en sus diferentes formas, y hasta me dio una lección de cuales son las evoluciones de algunos de ellos que salieron en el maso de cartas de la cajita.
En su presentación, aparece solo una carta, pero dentro de la caja hay más de 40, por lo que valió la pena la inversión, además de la cara de felicidad de mi hijo mientras descubría cada uno de los tesoros que traía su regalo improvisado.
Cuando volvimos a casa, luego de mi jornada laboral, sacó todo el maso y lo organizó, según él, por jerarquía Fue entonces cuando recordé que tenía también unas cartas Pokemon guardadas entre sus juguetes, que pasé a buscar para que acompañaran a estas nuevas.
Ahora, mi niño quiere empezar una colección de estas cartas, recordándome de cuando yo inicié mi colección de cartas de jugadores de beisbol, que si bien no eran las originales, me daban una gran emoción tenerlas y reunir dinero para ir por un nuevo sobre, por lo que espero que este regalo sea el inicio de un hobbie para mi hijo.

They had just arrived at my workplace the day before, and they were a source of curiosity for the children who, as soon as they walked in, saw them on display. This was also the case with my son, who has recently become a fan of the videos on YouTube, as well as the series.
When he saw the nine boxes they’d brought in, he started insisting he wanted one of them, and when he pointed out that I hadn’t given him a present for his special day, he finally won me over. Now the problem for him was choosing one of them, as they’re all really lovely, and since you could only see one card from the outside, it was impossible to know which one was best.
In the end, he settled on the box featuring Calyrex, a legendary rabbit-like Pokémon, as, according to him, it’s one of the most powerful. I’m impressed that he recognises them all (or almost all) in their different forms, and he even gave me a lesson on the evolutions of some of them that appeared in the card set inside the box.
On the packaging, only one card is shown, but inside the box there are more than 40, so it was well worth the money, not to mention the look of joy on my son’s face as he discovered each of the treasures contained in his impromptu gift.
When we got home after my shift, he took out the whole pile and organised it, in his own words, by rank. It was then that I remembered I also had some Pokémon cards tucked away among his toys, so I went to fetch them to go with these new ones.
Now, my son wants to start a collection of these cards, reminding me of when I started my collection of baseball player cards; although they weren’t the originals, I got a real thrill from having them and saving up to buy a new pack, so I hope this gift marks the start of a hobby for my son.
