“He Went Silent… But the Children He Helped Are Still Waiting”

Years ago, when our small rural school in Kenya was struggling to survive, someone from across the ocean believed in us.
We met through Hive.
While many people simply scrolled past our stories, this one person stopped… read… and cared.
Every time I shared about the children in our school, he would respond with encouragement — and sometimes support us with the little he could give.
To him, these children were not just names on a screen.
They were real.
And their stories mattered.
One of those stories was about three children we welcomed into our school.
They came with almost nothing.
Their mother suffers from mental illness and sometimes wanders the village, unable to care for them.
The eldest boy shows signs of the same struggle.
At times, he may suddenly tear a book or break a pencil — as if something inside him is fighting to be free.
And yet…
They still come to school.
They still try to learn.
They still hope.
Our school became their refuge.
A place where they could sit.
Eat.
Learn.
And feel safe — even if only for a few hours each day.
Whenever I shared stories like this, our Hive friend would respond with kindness.
His words reminded us that even though we are small and far away, someone cared.
But one day…
He went silent.
No more comments.
No more messages.
No more encouragement.
And to this day, I do not know what happened to him.
Sometimes I open Hive and remember those early days — when hope felt closer because someone believed in us.
Today, the children are still here.
But their needs have grown.
Our greatest challenge now is building a small dormitory.
For children who walk long distances.
For those with unstable homes.
For those who need more than just a classroom.
The cost is about $15,000.
For many, that may seem small.
For us, it is a mountain.
But I still believe what that one person showed us:
That when people hear a true story…
Compassion can travel across oceans.
Maybe somewhere, he would be glad to know:
The seeds he planted are still alive.
And maybe…
Someone reading this today will feel moved to help.
Because sometimes, one act of kindness can become a roof over a child’s head.
And that roof can change a life forever.
