“A Mother, Two Children… and Nowhere Safe to Sleep”

_Right now, within our school, there is a mother with nowhere to go.
_She is a single parent.
With her are two beautiful and bright children — a boy aged 5 and a girl aged 8.
As I write this, both children are battling malaria.
During this school holiday, they are sleeping inside one of our classrooms.
A place meant for learning… has become their shelter.
But it is not safe.
Not secure.
Not a place a family should live.
Her story is painful.
After her mother passed away, her father remained the only parent to care for the family — six daughters, all vulnerable.
Then tragedy struck.
People who wanted their land accused her father of witchcraft.
And in that moment of injustice and greed, he lost his life.
The family was left without protection.
Without a voice.
Without security.
She has carried that pain ever since.
Today, she is doing everything she can to raise her children and give them a future.
That is why we brought her here.
Not just to help her survive —
but to give her children a chance.
They are bright.
They are eager to learn.
They deserve more.
And this is where our greatest need becomes clear.
If we had a dormitory…
This mother could serve as a matron for the girls.
She would have a safe place to stay near them.
Her children would have stability.
And many other vulnerable children would also be protected.
What we lack is not willingness.
It is space.
It is safety.
It is structure.
Sometimes, the difference between hope and despair is simply a safe place to sleep.
And that is what we are working towards — one step at a time.
If this story speaks to you, even sharing it or offering your thoughts helps us move closer to that goal.
