Could you imagine, for example, the scene of Jack and Rose in the water without the characteristic melody of "Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave," composed by James Horner and majestically performed by the almost unbelievable voice of Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebø? Her singing emphasizes the melancholy of the scene, making Rose's message of loss resonate more effectively with the viewer (1:26 in the video). So here we see the importance of music in conveying emotions; it's the ideal complement to the actors and the plot.

Based on what I explained in the previous paragraph, today I'm going to talk about my favorite movie themes.

This song by Limahl, released in 1984 exclusively for the film of the same name, stands out for two things (at least in my humble opinion). First, for its powerful lyrics that emulate Sebastian's mission beyond reading the book; they are lyrics that instill hope and good vibes. Second, there is the melody itself. Without losing that characteristic 80s pop rhythm, there is no doubt that upon listening to the song we know it is about an epic story because in the production they used sequencers and electronic keyboards in such a skillful way that the result was magical. I even thought they had used a celesta (an instrument similar to a piano but with a higher-pitched sound, like a music box, and which was used in the main theme of Harry Potter).

Este tema de Limahl lanzado en 1984 exclusivamente para la película del mismo nombre destaca por dos cosas (al menos en mi humilde opinión) En primer lugar por su letra poderosa que emula la misión de Sebastián más allá de la lectura del libro, es una letra que te infunde esperanzas y buenas vibras, y en segundo lugar tenemos la melodía en sí, sin dejar de lado ese ritmo tan característico del pop ochentero, no hay lugar a dudas de que al escuchar la canción sabemos que trata sobre una historia épica porque en la producción usaron secuenciadores y teclados electrónicos de una manera tan hábil que el resultado fue mágico, incluso llegué a pensar que habían usado una celesta (un instrumento parecido a un piano pero con un sonido más agudo, parecido al de una caja de música y que fue usado en el tema principal de Harry Potter).

This song undoubtedly screams AFRICA wherever you hear it. Composed by Elton John and Tim Rice and performed by Carmen Twillie on lead vocals and Lebo M on backing vocals, it's not exactly the main theme of The Lion King, but it is part of the soundtrack. That Zulu cry at the beginning, meaning "Here comes a lion, father," is the perfect accompaniment to Simba's birth. It announces something big; you know that spectacular things will happen from that moment on. We also see images of animals standing still, awestruck by the solemnity of the moment. As it approaches the chorus, the intensity builds, and the listener's emotions rise accordingly—well, at least that's how it is for me; I don't know about you.

No es precisamente el tema principal de la película El Rey león pero sí forma parte de la banda sonora, Ese grito en Zulú del inicio que significa "Aquí viene un león, padre" es el acompañamiento perfecto para el nacimiento de simba, te anuncia algo grande, sabes que cosas espectaculares sucederán a partir de ese momento, además vemos imágenes de animales que se detienen ante la solemnidad del momento. A medida que se acerca al coro la intensidad va in crescendo y de la misma manera también se elevan las emociones del espectador, bueno, al menos es lo que a mi me pasa, no sé a ustedes.

This song became an icon of the '80s, immortalized by the movie Dirty Dancing. I love this song because both the lyrics and the melody perfectly reflect the characters' feelings and actions. It speaks of the transformation that comes with love, while also celebrating gratitude for that moment, a moment of pure happiness for the couple. According to the plot, Baby (Jennifer Grey) could already dance, but she still struggled to gain confidence when attempting a lift. However, at the song's climactic moment, she finally finds the confidence and performs it, delivering a regal performance, as wonderful as the song itself. Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes' voices blended perfectly, as well as Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey's dancing, don't you think?

Amo esta canción porque tanto la letra como la propia melodía van en concordancia con los sentimientos y acciones de los personajes, habla de la transformación que surge con el amor, a la vez celebra la gratitud por ese momento vivido, un momento de felicidad máxima para la pareja, según la trama Baby (Jennifer Grey) ya podía bailar pero aún le costaba ganar confianza al momento de hacer una elevación, pero en el momento más álgido de la canción ella logra ganar confianza y lo hace, ofreciendo una interpretación regia, tan maravillosa como la propia canción. Las voces de Bill Medley y Jennifer Warnes se acoplaron perfectamente, tan bien como la danza de Patrick Swayze y Jennifer Grey ¿no lo creen?

How could I leave out the Mamma Mia! soundtrack? It's a tribute to ABBA, and yes, I LOVE ABBA! 😍 Meryl Streep surprised me so much in this film. I already knew her acting skills were immeasurable, but I didn't know she could sing so well, and I don't usually enjoy musicals. Only Sweeney Todd, Les Misérables, and this film have truly captivated me. All the songs on the Mamma Mia! soundtrack are a journey through the Swedish band's repertoire of hits, but the best part is that they perfectly match the characters' feelings, emotions, and experiences.

¿Como dejar de lado la banda sonora de la película Mamma Mía? Si precisamente es un homenaje a ABBA y sí AMO ABBA 😍 Meryl Streep me sorprendió mucho en esta película, ya sabía que sus habilidades histriónicas eran inconmensurables, pero no sabía que podía cantar tan bien, y eso que normalmente no disfruto los musicales, solo Sweeney Todd, Los Miserables y esta película han sido las únicas que he disfrutado como nunca. Todas las canciones de la banda sonora de Mamma mía son un paseo por el repertorio de éxitos de la banda sueca, pero lo mejor de todo es que se ajustan a los sentimientos de sus personajes, a sus emociones y vivencias.

Wow! This is my favorite track from the entire Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street soundtrack. In it, the character expresses his feelings, his frustration, but also his gratitude for being back with his best friends (his razors). He gazes at them eagerly, thinking of his long-awaited revenge against Judge Turping after he was banished and stripped of all his positions. You could say it's a "love song," but with a very twisted and dark concept, and one of the things I love most is the use of metaphors and euphemisms to refer to blood and revenge. Sweeney becomes obsessed with his razors because they are the only link he has to his happy past, and at the same time, they are the means by which he intends to deliver justice (according to his own standards). I love the song so much that I once tried to recreate it for a Hive Open Mic event.

Se podría decir que es una "canción de amor" pero con un concepto muy retorcido y oscuro del mismo, y una de las cosas que más me gusta es el uso de metáforas y eufemismos para referirse a la sangre y la venganza. Sweeney se obsesiona con sus navajas porque son el único vínculo que tiene con su pasado feliz y a la vez es el medio a través del cual piensa hacer justicia (según su criterio) Me gusta tanto el tema que una vez intenté recrearlo para una actividad del Hive Open Mic.
