Who Says Motherhood Is Easy?
There’s this notion that motherhood is easy, and honestly, that idea could not be further from the truth, especially when you’re doing it without money to ease the load. I often hear people say that it gets easier as you go along, but those words are usually coming from people who have the financial freedom to make their lives a little simpler. If you’re lucky enough to have money, a lot of things can be outsourced. Things like childcare, cleaning services, and even the small but important things like a washing machine, suddenly, motherhood feels a bit more manageable.

But for the rest of us who are doing it without that cushion, life is not as easy as it may seem. Every day is a reminder of how much hard work it takes to keep things going. And sometimes, the little things we take for granted are the ones that make all the difference. I’ve been telling myself for months now that I need a washing machine. It's not a luxury; it’s a necessity. The thought of not having to spend hours on end washing clothes by hand feels like a dream. But reality is, I don’t have that kind of money, and so, I’m stuck doing it the hard way.

The simple task of washing clothes has become a mountain. It’s not like when I was single and could do a load of laundry here and there. Now, with a family, it feels like there’s always something to wash. I try to do laundry every three days, but honestly, the amount piles up so quickly that it feels like I’m washing everything I wore for two weeks when I was living alone. It’s really exhausting both physically and mentally. I find myself dreading the moment when I’ll have to face the laundry pile again, knowing I’ll be scrubbing and wringing clothes for hours.

The worst part of it all is how my hands have suffered. I can’t even look at them without feeling a sense of frustration. They’re rough, cracked, and sore from the constant scrubbing. It’s a reminder that this is what my day-to-day looks like, and it’s not easy. When you don't have money to make your life easier, you end up sacrificing your time, your energy, and sometimes even your health. I look at my hands and wonder how much longer I’ll be able to keep up with this. I try to tell myself that one day things will get better, but when you’re caught in the cycle of doing everything by hand, it can feel like there’s no end in sight.
I know I’m not alone in this. There are countless mothers out there doing everything they can, with very little resources, to keep things running. They might not have the luxury of outsourcing tasks, but they do what they have to do. And even though it’s hard, they find strength in pushing through. Because motherhood isn’t about how easy things are, it’s about how much you’re willing to sacrifice to make sure your family is taken care of. It’s a reminder that behind every mom’s tired eyes and rough hands, there’s an immense amount of love and dedication.
So, next time someone tells you that motherhood is easy, remember that it’s easy when you have the resources to make it so. For the rest of us, it's a constant grind, but one that’s worth it, even if it means getting our hands a little rough along the way.
