Discovering Šmihel Church above Laško, Slovenia
Hello everyone, I hope you are doing great and have a nice spring days. In the previous post, I wrote about my last trip to Lasko, Slovenia, so in the coming days I will share some more impressive spots of this place. This was not my first visit to Lasko, but it was my first visit to the historical sites on the hills above this place. Every time we were there we looked at the imposing church with two domes high in the hills from the foot of the town.

It was the Shmichel (Šmihel) church, we learned from the locals. It is a 17th-century building constructed in the Baroque style.

Our visit to Shmihel (St Michael) Church in Laško started with a simple moment of curiosity. From the distance, it looked peaceful and inviting, almost like it was calling us to come closer and that was enough to make us want to climb up and see it for ourselves.

The walk toward the church felt like a small adventure. As we got closer, we noticed a statue standing in front of the entrance, watching over the surroundings.

It added a special character to the place, giving it a sense of history and quiet significance.

The nature around was fascinating.

I enjoyed looking into the distance, high and far, breathing in the fresh clean air.

Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to see the inside of the church. The doors were locked, so we could only catch a glimpse through the keyhole. Even that tiny view sparked our imagination just enough to wonder what the full interior might look like.

Still, the visit didn't feel incomplete. Standing there, surrounded by nature and silence, with the town below and the hills around us, was more than enough.

Sometimes, it's not about seeing everything, but about the feeling a place leaves behind and Šmihel Church certainly left one worth remembering.

My kids are also happier wandering around, as if that air gave them some extra energy. We felt strong and healthy there. The locals told us that there is another church nearby, so then we headed there...

Thank you for reading.
