Hello Everyone!
The scheduling game, Sleeping the day away, Watering plants, Squash seed thieves & The vines are growing!
Alright, I am running behind schedule with the writing routine again... by pretty much the same amount of time as before! This evening, I at least do not feel all that 'bent out of shape' about it all... and am starting to think more and more that I need to expand the window for my writing time and be done with it.
Having 'played' this game with myself before with the scheduling and such... I know full well that if I 'expand the window' then I am inviting myself to be tempted to slack on doing it... until the last proverbial minute. Which is why, I have been so hesitant to do that and why in the long run... I will either need to 'get it together' and be on time... or find a better time (than at night) to do it all.
The 'reason' for tonight's late start is (as always) my own fault... because last night my internet connection mysteriously started working well for the first time in weeks (maybe months) and I stayed up all night tinkering with some projects online. I had also broke my rule about not drinking black tea at night... and whoa that stuff gets me wired in a way that coffee just doesn't do anymore.
Since I had napped so much during the day, I was not having to struggle that much against fatigue... and for the first time in quite a while... I felt like I was not just being productive but also having fun. Eventually, it all caught up to me... but by then I had set the chickens to foraging for the day, watered most of the seeds that I have planted... and went on a brief hike.
I was a little surprised to see that there are a bunch of tiny plants beginning to pop up in the flower pots... and one of the pumpkin (or squash) plants is already putting on some nice growth. Given that my foot was paining me as I watered everything, I did not give them quite as much water as I wanted to... but hopefully it was enough to help keep the tiny plants from wilting in the sun.
The only real casualties that I have seen so far, is in those containers that I have in the little greenhouse... because it looks like some kind of rodent (maybe even a squirrel) dug up all the squash seeds that I had planted in them. It looked like whatever it was only took the squash seeds... so hopefully it did not eat the black locust and grass seeds as well.
As for all the flower pots that I have on that 'table' behind the studio, all the black locust saplings in them seem to be doing super good... and some are at a point where I need to shuffle them around... so that they do not shade each other out. The 'table' itself also seems to be working to keep the saplings out of reach from the rabbits... and that is the real win in that scenario aside from the saplings getting more sun there.
On another note, I have been seeing a heck of a lot of grapevines starting to put out new growth... and there is even lots of that 'jasmine' (that I transplanted near the trellises) beginning to grow onto the trellises. Depending on how much rain there is over the coming months... and on how well all the vines do... most of the trellises will hopefully become fully enveloped in vine foliage before autumn.
In the process, they will also become even more effective at being privacy walls... which (aside from creating shade for the tent that was there) was what I originally constructed them for. If the experiment does well (over time) I am thinking to build more such trellises... not so much for privacy (or even grapes) but just for the wildlife and especially the birds because they seem to love perching in/on them.
Well, I do not have much else to report on for the day and am going to wrap this entry up... and get on with the more tedious editing and posting portion of things. I hope that everyone is doing well. Ciao for now and Big Love.
