Hello Everyone!
Napping too long again, Going on a wee hike, Gardening updates & Some talkative bug-eating chickens!
Alright, I am running behind schedule with my writing routine this evening after oversleeping during a late day nap... and then piddling around getting all my late day chores done much later than when I usually do them. I also opted to make some espresso and have been more or less sitting around, sipping on it... and trying to get my little brain woken up enough to start pecking out some words here.
Skipping taking naps for two days in a row, sure caught up to me quickly... and it has left me reconsidering my latest strategy for 'being on time' with my writing routine. I am unsure on what the best strategy is going to be for all of that... and in the end I might wind up having to just 'be okay' with how I am currently doing things and expand my 'writing window' by an hour or two.
As a side note, I have not worked on that fictional material for a few days now... and although I keep opening it in the text editor... I also keep failing to give it another proofread or further editing either. The story itself is still very much 'alive' in my mind (meaning I keep seeing it unfold) and for the moment... I think that I am simply at a stopping point... where I should try wrapping things up and get what I already have written shared.
Anyways, today was yet another less than productive day as my foot continues to heal... and yup I am starting to get really tired of being cooped up indoors so much given all the nice weather. I did go on a brief hike this afternoon, to look at what plants are popping up... but I wound up sitting down (to get off my foot) for a longer period than all the walking that I did combined.
While I was 'up and about' I also checked on everything that I have planted recently... but (aside from that one onion) nothing seems to be growing yet. Since it has not been raining, I am going to begin watering everything over the coming days... so maybe that will help get things to start growing.
Something else that I want to do soon, is prepare more black locust seeds (by scarifying them with a file) and get more of them planted for the year than the handful that I planted last week. I am also considering re-purposing some 'styrofoam' egg cartons into being 'starter trays' for the black locust seedlings... so that I can keep them indoors until they are hardy (mature) enough to be put in their own flower pots.
In the past, I have mainly 'directly planted' the black locust seeds in their respective pots... but I tend to lose a lot that way either to too much sun, too much heat, too much rain or too many critters eating them. So this time around, I am going to try something different... even though I will probably lose just as many seedlings during the transplanting process as I did by doing things the other way!
On a different note, Yang the silkie rooster has at this point made a full recovery... and although I have yet to hear him crow again... he has been making more noises lately. For a chicken he sure is talkative and over the last few days, I have even spotted Emily the hen hanging out near him... and them chatting back and forth through the dog yard fence as they forage in their respective areas.
That said, I need to get more regular chickens and silkies so that the ones that I have can be in their own flocks... and of course start making eggs instead of just being bug eaters. Given that the whole reason that I got chickens in the first place was to eat ticks... I am not all that concerned about not getting eggs... and so far this year I have only seen one tick... so that is not that bad for having so few birds at the moment.
Well, I think that I am going to wrap this entry up before the hour gets much later and the fatigue catches up to me. I hope that everyone is doing well. Ciao for now.
