Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to an art exhibition called "Rooted Adrift" at the Nexus gallery in the city of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. It opened last Monday, April 6th, as part of the program of the 23rd Piña Colada Festival of the municipality. Additionally, I will show you a commemoration of Good Friday, contemplating the cross from which our salvation hung. I hope you like the artworks and enjoy the religious photographic event.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a una exposición de arte denominada "Arraigo a la Deriva" en la galería Nexus de la ciudad Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. Fue inaugurada el pasado lunes 6 de abril como parte del programa XXIII Festival Piña Colada del municipio, además les mostraré una conmemoración del Viernes Santo, contemplando la cruz, de la que pendió nuestra salvación. Espero les gusten las obras y disfruten del evento fotográfico religioso.

To begin my journey to the art exhibition and the religious event, I took several photographs of my neighborhood and the streets on the way to the gallery, all on a normal day, with people passing by on their way to work or doing chores at home.
This Holy Week celebration is important for those who love God; it is a new revelation of the greatest mystery of our faith. On that day, the San Eugenio de la Palma church is immersed in a moving silence, total attention, focused on the sacrifice of Christ, who gave his life out of love for us.
Para comenzar mi travesía hacia la exhibición de arte y el evento religioso, pues realice varias tomas fotográficas de mi barrio y las calles para llegar a la galería, todas de un día normal por el paso de personas hacia los trabajos o labores en sus hogares.
Esta celebración de semana santa es importante para los amantes de Dios, es una nueva revelación del mayor misterio de nuestra fe. Ese día la iglesia San Eugenio de la Palma se sumerge en un conmovedor silencio, atención total, centrado en la adopción de cristo, quien entregó su vida por amor a nosotros.
Throughout the morning of Good Friday, the parish community gathered to pray Lauds together and later accompany Jesus on his way to Calvary through the prayer of the Stations of the Cross. From afar, the love of all the people and their support for religion was noticeable.
Through the meditation of each of the stations, some necessary features were discovered to live the synodal dimension of the Church, during this stage of implementation of the final document of the Synod on Synodality that is taking place in the Universal Cathedral.
Durante toda la mañana del Viernes Santo, la comunidad parroquial se reunió para rezar juntos los Laudes y, posteriormente, acompañar a Jesús en su camino hacia el Calvario mediante el rezo del Vía Crucis. Desde lejos, se notaba el amor de todas las personas y su apoyo a la religión.
A través de la meditación de cada una de las estaciones, se descubrían algunos rasgos necesarios para vivir la dimensión sinodal de la Iglesia, en esta etapa de implementación del documento final del Sínodo de la Sinodalidad que se está viviendo en la Cathedral Universal.
Following the path to the art opening, I went through the boulevard, noticing at the very top of the 12-story building a technician fixing the antennas, due to Wi-Fi failures or connection problems.
Dancers and singers were also rehearsing for the Piña Colada Festival, for their performance in the coming days. Despite the upcoming activities, the atmosphere in the city of Ciego de Ávila was calm.
Siguiendo el camino hacia la inauguración de arte, atravesé por el boulevar, notando en lo más alto del Edificio 12 plantas, un técnico arreglando las antenas, por fallos en la wifi o problemas de conexión.
También estaban ensayando bailarinas y cantantes para el Festival Piña Colada, en su presentación de los próximos días. A pesar de las actividades que se avecinan el ambiente era tranquilo por la ciudad Avileña.
To begin this exhibition "Roots Adrift" at the Nexos gallery, located in the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS),
I will tell you that it features 13 conceptually powerful pieces, based on wood with metal inlays, that manage to convey a message of Cuban identity that is breathed; lived; and then dreamed, lingering in personal memory hours after having witnessed it.
Para comenzar esta exposición "Arraigo a la deriva" en la galería Nexos, ubicada en la Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS).
Les contaré que cuenta con 13 piezas conceptualmente poderosas, sobre la base de la madera con incrustaciones de metal, que consiguen transmitir un mensaje de cubanidad que se respira; se vive; y luego, se sueña, al quedarse en la memoria personal horas después de haberla atestiguado.
This solo exhibition demonstrates the skill and commitment to his reality of art instructor Félix Zayas Sarabia, the creator behind all these sculptural beauties.
His sculptures not only show that he has concept and technique, but also much to say about what we leave behind when we decide to uproot ourselves from everything that has been ours in order to live in another dimension, in another rooting.
La expo personal demuestra oficio y compromiso ante su realidad, del instructor de arte Félix Zayas Sarabia, el protagonista de todas estas bellezas escultóricas.
Sus esculturas, no solo demuestra que tiene concepto y técnica, sino, también, mucho que decir sobre lo que dejamos atrás cuando decidimos desarraigarnos de todo lo que ha sido nuestro para vivir en otra dimensión, en otro arraigo.
Roots Adrift, according to the creator, is an aesthetic proposal more closely linked to the conceptualism prevalent in the techno-formal solutions of his constant interest in capturing the subjugation of a community.
In Zayas's work, pigment, patina, colorations, and tones appear very close to the color of the earth, evoking a kind of garden of life, thus offering an image rich in suggestions.
Arraigo a la deriva según el creador, es una propuesta estética más vinculada al conceptualismo predominante en las soluciones tecnoformales del constante interés de captar el sometimiento de una comunidad.
En Zayas el pigmento, la pátina, las coloraciones y tonalidades se muestran muy cercanas al color de la tierra evocando una suerte de jardín de la vida, ofreciendo así una imagen rica en sugerencias.
We are faced with works whose metaphor can be read in many ways, but which, given the circumstances, seems to refer to the categories of immortality so frequently used in Cuba over so many years.

Although the collection showcases impressive technique and craftsmanship. Despite the personalized inventiveness of its author—he took the essences of the classical styles considered paradigms of universality and, through a sophisticated, almost archaeological treatment, restored meaning to natural elements as well as to objects closely related to human life, such as clock parts, typewriter pieces, etc., incorporating a new conceptual and visual dimension.

I could affirm, in light of the current moment, that this collection is one of the most creative in recent times within the artistic-visual context of Ciego de Ávila province, one of the most interesting visual references among these latest generations of creators, both for the values achieved in its plastic expression and for the concepts to which it refers.
Several of the Vessels from the series 'Absent Contents' have received numerous national awards.
Podría afirmar, a la luz de la actualidad, que esta colección es una de las de mayor creatividad de estos últimos tiempos en el contexto artístico-visual en la provincia Ciego de Ávila, uno de los referentes visuales más interesantes de estas últimas promociones de creadores, tanto por sus valores alcanzados en su expresión plástica como por los conceptos a los que remiten.
Varias de las Vasijas de la serie Contenidos Ausentes, son numerosos premios nacionales.
Zayas Sarabia's work, with its very severe chromaticism, seems hermetic but is not. Reaching back to antiquity as a paradigm of the historical, he revived fish with his original mechanics, creating them where time seemed to have stood still, and from their glorious past, only empty environments and monuments remained.

La obra de Zayas Sarabia, también de un cromatismo muy severo, parece hermética pero no lo es. Remontándose a la antigüedad como paradigma de lo histórico, revivió peces con su original mecánica, los creó donde el tiempo parecía haberse detenido, y de su glorioso pasado, solo ambientes y monumentos vacíos dejaba.
Por último, la AHS demuestra, así, sin necesidad de revelarlo, que sigue siendo un escenario obligado para el crecimiento espiritual, para la concatenación de la política cultural cubana y todo lo que significa ser cubano.
