Three Tune Tuesday: Sabrina Carpenter

A few days ago, I watched her live performance at Coachella through YouTube. So far, it is one of the most interesting and favorite performances from the entire festival. It feels like a show I haven’t gotten bored of, but I don’t want to judge entirely as I only watched two. As a proud Filipino and casual listener of BINI, I streamed it first. Then, I followed it with Sabrina Carpenter. Here are some of my favorite songs from the singer.
Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso

Listening to this song is like a breath of fresh air. It starts with a disco-themed instrumental, and Sabrina comes in. Besides the double meaning of the song, I also love its backstory. The song was supposedly not meant to be her first single, and it should have been "Please Please Please." However, according to Sabrina, she argued that she should start that era with that song. If she didn’t risk it, I don’t think she would be as popular as she is today. I used to listen to it whenever I wanted to feel calm while writing, working, or studying.

Although it was released a few months ago, it is now my favorite song from her. I appreciated this song more when she put out a music video and made it a single. All I can say is that this song screams vintage and feels like it was produced in the '80s. It looks like the song was inspired by "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" or "I Wanna Dance With Somebody." You know those songs from the past are huge hits, and Sabrina wants to imitate that aesthetic. Making that music video is a bold move, as it subtly shades the Recording Academy where she was allegedly robbed of a Grammy in the MV. If you have watched the Grammys, she went home empty-handed, and she deserves at least one trophy.

I’m stuck between "Manchild" and "Tears," but I chose the second one more. I like how she performed it at Coachella, even though I sing "Manchild" more. The song doesn’t have a much deeper meaning, but it’s just a happy and kinky song. At first, I thought that this song would be a move-on track from her ex. But after its release, you’ll realize that it’s more about ovulation. Overall, it was a fun and 18+ rated song meant for those who feel (you know). I am not used to listen on this song as it doesn't represent me. I just love its fun vibe.
Thank you for reading.
