A Geeky Guy's Guide to the NBA Playoffs

Finally! Being a Bulls fan has been brutal! I have only watched a handful of Bulls games all year and have only seen one since the dreadful trade deadline. Although I have watched a bunch of national TV games of other teams throughout the year, now I will have an excuse to watch basketball just about every night! It is NBA playoff time!!!!

Let's start with the Eastern Conference. It sucks. I don't care about a single team in the East. Boom. Done.
Ok I guess I have to say something about it even if it is why I don't care. It seems every single compelling team or player is in the Western Conference. I love basketball and I can't name a single player on the best team in the East, the Detroit Pistons. I'm pretty sure Isaiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer are no longer on the team. I think they may have been replaced by a guy named Cunningham but I honestly don't know. The favorite to win the East now that Jayson Tatum has returned is the Boston Celtics. But this just annoys me as the only player in the East that I care about, and the objectively best player on the Celtics is Jaylen Brown. While Tatum puts up stats, Brown plays in a way to win games. Everyone thought the Celtics would be terrible this year after losing Tatum, Porzingis, Horford and others. But no. Brown just kept playing great on both ends of the floor. The only other team I can even name a major player on is the New York Knicks and we have seen Karl Anthony Towns enough to know they aren't going anywhere. Heck even Joel Embid is out (what a HUGE surprise) so I can't even hate watch the 76ers.
Hands down one of my favorite images of all time. Go flop some more!
But holy shit is the West stacked!!!! OKC, Denver, San Antonio, Houston and maybe even Minnesota are Championship caliber teams. And that is not even counting what Golden State did last night to keep their season alive. The west has the two most exciting and enjoyable players to watch in the enter league in Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama. Jokic is the only player I can even entertain the idea of being as good as Michael Jordan and if Wemby can stay healthy, he will enter that conversation as well. Houston provides and interesting story of whether or not you can gut your entire bench to bring in an NBA all-time great in Kevin Durant and still be able to make it to the end of a postseason.
And then there are the Minnesota Timberwolves. I might not be able to hate watch Joel Embid this playoff season, but I sure can hate me some Rudy Gobert! Not only is Gobert the most overrated NBA player in the 21st century, he is also just a douche-bag. Gobert is supposed to be a defensive stopper but in every playoff series I have ever watched him in, the opponents best player targets and destroys him. Because he has made it his life's goal to never work on a single offensive move, the Timberwolves have to play 4 on 5 on offense when he is in the game. Luckily for them they have one of the best offensive players in Anthony Edwards to compensate for that... during the regular season. But during the playoffs it is such a handicap that Gobert is often benched in the fourth quarter of games. so I may watch every Timberwolves game just in hopes of seeing Gobert make himself look like the worthless garbage he is. Oh and what luck for me! It turns out a team I love watching, the Denver Nuggets, are playing against the douche-bag's team. Hopefully it will only take four games and then I can forget about Gobert until next year again. Sadly, the rest of the Timberwolves team is pretty good, exciting and fun to watch. So maybe it will go longer. Who knows, maybe he will twist his ankle or himself in the head with one of the bricks he wildly throws up.
I really hope I get to see this match-up!
OK now that I have spewed my irrational emotion, I can settle down and actually start looking at these match-ups. But for now, I'll just be happy the real NBA season is beginning!
