The street is straightforward, not very ornate, and when I depict it in black and white it's precisely to make that more evident, without distractions, without unnecessary color drawing attention, leaving only what matters. It's people passing by, each one on their own path, faces hardened, bodies weary, gazes lost in thought, lost in a thousand things. There are peeling walls, dirty floors, harsh light in one corner and heavy shadows in another, everything rather raw, just as it is.

a rua é direta, não tem muito enfeite, e quando eu jogo ela no preto e branco é justamente pra deixar isso mais evidente, sem distração, sem cor chamando atenção à toa, fica só o que interessa. é gente passando, cada um no seu corre, cara fechada, cansaço no corpo, olhar longe pensando em mil coisas. tem parede descascada, chão sujo, luz estourando em um canto e sombra pesada no outro, tudo meio bruto mesmo, do jeito que é.

In everyday life, almost no one stops to notice it, but when you photograph it, you start to see the details better, the expressions, the moments that pass quickly. That guy standing at the bus stop, someone leaning against the wall fiddling with their cell phone, the vendor trying to grab the attention of someone who doesn't care. It's all very common, but at the same time, each scene has its own weight.

no dia a dia quase ninguém para pra reparar nisso, mas quando você fotografa, começa a ver melhor os detalhes, as expressões, os momentos que passam rápido. aquele cara parado no ponto, alguém encostado no muro mexendo no celular, o vendedor tentando puxar atenção de quem tá nem aí. é tudo muito comum, mas ao mesmo tempo cada cena tem seu peso.

Black and white helps to "light up" reality, not in the sense of making it pretty, but of making it clearer, more honest. You look and understand immediately, without having to think too much. It's the street being the street, unfiltered, without invented stories.

o preto e branco ajuda a dar essa “acendida” na realidade, não no sentido de deixar bonito, mas de deixar mais claro, mais honesto. você olha e entende na hora, sem precisar pensar muito. é a rua sendo rua, sem filtro, sem história inventada.

And at the same time, there's a certain balance to it all, because amidst the chaos there are also small respites, quick encounters, glances that meet, movements that fit together without anyone noticing. The city doesn't stop, it just changes its rhythm, and every corner has a story unfolding at the same time.

e ao mesmo tempo tem um certo equilíbrio nisso tudo, porque no meio do caos também rolam pequenos respiros, encontros rápidos, olhares que se cruzam, movimentos que se encaixam sem ninguém perceber. a cidade não para, só muda de ritmo, e cada canto tem uma história acontecendo ao mesmo tempo.

I stay there in the middle, not trying to control anything, just observing and documenting. You can't predict much, and maybe that's what makes street photography meaningful.

eu fico ali no meio, sem querer controlar nada, só acompanhando e registrando. não dá pra prever muita coisa, e talvez seja isso que faz sentido na fotografia de rua.

It's about accepting improvisation, the unexpected, and trusting that the scene will unfold in front of you. In the end, it's not about creating something, it's more about not letting what's already there all along slip by unnoticed.

é aceitar o improviso, o inesperado, e confiar que a cena vai acontecer na sua frente. no fim, não é sobre criar algo, é mais sobre não deixar passar batido aquilo que já tá ali o tempo todo.
