The Beauty of Shallow Depth of Field

One photography technique I often use in most of my photo sessions is separating the subject from the background by creating a shallow depth of field. I really like this effect because it helps the main subject stand out more clearly, while the background fades into a softer blur. It gives the photo a stronger sense of focus and makes the image feel cleaner and more intentional.

What I find interesting is how common this technique has become now. These days, phone cameras make it so easy that many of us have grown used to seeing it. With just a tap, we can create images that once required more effort, skill, and much more expensive equipment. Many years ago, cameras and lenses capable of producing this kind of depth were usually expensive and not easily accessible to everyone. But because of the advancement of technology, that kind of shot is now available to almost anyone who wants to create it.
For me, that is something worth appreciating. Technology has made photography more open and more enjoyable for ordinary people like us. It gives more people the chance to express themselves, experiment, and discover beauty in everyday things without needing the most advanced gear.
That also made me think about life in general. Sometimes the tools become easier, but the eye behind the camera still matters. Even if many people can use the same technique, each person still notices different subjects, different moods, and different moments. The tool may be common, but the vision remains personal.
That is what I wanted to share in today’s post through these photos. I used this simple but effective technique to highlight the subjects and let them speak more clearly against their surroundings. In the end, photography is not only about what technology can do, but also about how we choose to see.
Have a good day ahead.
