Paris, Jr Bloomsday, 20 Mile Ride, Mileage Goals, Gear, Robin Nest - Sunday

I was up in time yesterday morning to get to watch the Paris-Roubaix race and wow, no wonder it is called the hell of the north. Those cobbles look like shit to ride on. Many popped tires, crashes, and bike swaps happened.

As the light began to increase the fog was hanging heavy outside.

One hell of a finish to the race saw Pogacar get beat in the velodrome by a bike length. After 158 miles of riding it came down to that.

The boys had their Jr. Bloomsday run we took them to. An hour of driving for 8 minutes of running the mile course. That is R in the lead of the group as he bolted off the start.

J was not far behind him but eventually passed him.

J got a 7:36 mile and is the fastest Fleming again this year to run it.

R is the second fastest Fleming. He was a bit worked from the effort as he sprinted part of it.

The timing was perfect, towards the latter part of the window so the place was not nearly as busy with people. We stopped at Sonic on the way home for food.

At noon the boys went next door to help haul branches. J only got an hour in as he then had to be at his first flag football practice at 1:30. R kept at it until 3 and got paid for helping. I took the chance to go out for a ride since the weather was okay. I probably should have taken it a bit easier but I did feel pretty good the whole time, though Garmin says I need a lot of recovery.

I will say the 80 psi in the tires seems to help my speed and even seemed quite solid on the gravel and dirt sections.

It felt like I was racing the clouds and storms that were building up around the region but never ran into them. It stayed dry the whole ride.

With that 20 mile ride I passed the halfway point to my 1000 mile year goal! It has only been 41 rides this year to get to 500 miles and I have now set myself a new goal of 2500 miles for the year for which I am 20% complete. Given I have the 50 mile ride next month I expect to be getting in ample miles. And if I sign up for the 100 mile in September I will really get in miles in training.
As much as I was trying to cruise the ride I still ended up with my fastest 20 and 30k times...
Like a raven drawn to shiny things my eye caught the extension and socket buried in the gravel road. Craftsman 10mm socket is super useful.

My new shorts and jersey arrived which gives me 4 of each. Much better to cycle through them and with summer and higher sweat volumes I can have a clean set for each ride. Have a green and blue in both long and short sleeve.

I went to the studio for a bag of potatoes and as I walked up to door a robin flew off. I looked around a bit and found they have a nest built atop the wood stood in the corner.

Climbed up to find they have a pair of eggs. I will try to reposition the Wyze cam to look down at the nest today.

Stupid early waking today and the head ick is nearly done finally. Boys are back to school after what seems like a really long spring break. I have to do shit around the farm as I have been uber slacking on it. Go hack on the branches I brought home and cut burnable lengths to toss in the seasoning pile nearby. Garden needs finishing, house needs vacuuming, and J starts track practice so I will have to pick him up after each day of the week.
