It would not be fair to question why we celebrate Easter, because from the time of the Israelites, the Bible has already established the practice of observing sacred feasts in honor of God Almighty. These celebrations were divinely instructed and have remained consistent in purpose.

In the book of Exodus chapter 12, God spoke to Moses and Aaron while they were still in Egypt. He declared that the current month would mark the beginning of months for them—the first month of their year.

God instructed the people of Israel that on the tenth day of that month, each household should select a lamb according to their family size. If a household was too small, they could share with a neighbor. The lamb chosen must be without defect, a male of the first year, taken from either the sheep or goats.

Further instructions were given that the meal should be eaten in readiness—dressed, prepared, and alert—because it was the Lord’s Passover.

The Passover is one of the official feasts of Israel. Over time, it became known as “Pascha,” a term still used by some Christian traditions, including the Catholic Church. This feast is observed annually by the Israelites at sunset on the 14th day of the first month, known as Abib (or Nisan).

This event took place when God was preparing to deliver His people from Egypt, where they had lived for 430 years. Through this command, God set apart a people for Himself and established a lasting tradition to commemorate their deliverance.
