After the overwhelming success of the 2023 animated film, Illumination and Nintendo knew they had more than just a movie on their hands; they had a living universe. And they've certainly expanded it.
This time, with Super Mario Galaxy, we embark on an adventure that not only respects the plumber's legacy but elevates it to cosmic levels. From the very first notes, we understand that this isn't just a simple sequel, but a love letter to the players who grew up with a controller in their hands, specifically those who cherish the memories of the classics that defined an era.

At the beginning of this film, we find Mario (voiced by Chris Pratt, in a more nuanced and comedic performance than in the first installment) and his brother Luigi (Charlie Day, as endearingly jittery as ever) repairing a pipe, and there, to everyone's delight, they find the ever-beloved and phlegmatic Yoshi (with the guttural yet endearing voice of Donald Glover) who will guide them through this new world.
The chemistry between the brother duo and this tame dinosaur is the comedic heart of the first thirty minutes, reminding us why Yoshi is much more than just a means of transportation.
We also see a more warrior-like and combative Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) seeking to understand her origins and teaching us that we are the product of our origins and that family is what should matter most. But it won't all be rosy. A new enemy, Bower Jr., comes to rescue his father and seek more territory.

Veremos un cameo de Fox McCloud, (Glen Powell) Quien llega producto del cruce del multiverso y abre la posible aparición de más personajes e historias de otros juegos de Nintendo que podrían también ser llevados al cine. Algo como un “Universo nintendo” esto aún no se ha confirmado, pero tampoco desmentido, esperemos a ver que viene en el futuro sobre ese tema.
A nivel de sonido, la experiencia es una auténtica sinfonía nostálgica. Visualmente, la animación de Illumination ha dado un salto cuántico. Olvídense de los escenarios planos de la primera película; aquí estamos ante fondos dinámicos y coloridos que parecen sacados de un documental de la NASA y las referencias a los juegos clásicos son un torrente imparable.
La posible irrupción de nuevos enemigos como Wario y Waluigi se deja caer en una escena post-créditos que ya tiene a los fans teorizando. En definitiva, Super Mario Galaxy, es la secuela que los fans merecíamos.
