Growing a Better Future Through Gardening and Community: Not Just Plants, But Children with Purpose

Hello to my fellow gardeners! I hope you’re all growing more, because every seed we plant today shapes the future of our children.
Nowadays, many children especially in the Gen Z generation are focused on technology. But as parents, we want something more for our child. We want her to experience life beyond the four corners of our home.

My husband and I believe that even at a young age, she should learn how to play with other children, enjoy simple moments, experience what we experience before and eat healthy food that she understands comes from hard work. We want her to grow up knowing not just what she eats, but where it comes from.

At her early age, she already recognizes different vegetables and fruits that we plant and harvest. She knows how to share with our family and our community. She loves vegetables like cucumber, squash, kangkong, alugbati, sweet potatoes, and pechay foods that we grow with our own hands.

In our community, the children also help in our garden. Because of that, they all get to enjoy the harvest. More than just providing food, it teaches them something deeper. They learn that every meal comes with effort. They begin to understand the value of hard work, sharing, and caring for others.
This is the true goal of our community garden. It’s not just about winning competitions. It’s about raising healthy children, building a greener environment, and creating a space where everyone benefits.

Starting with something as simple as planting vegetables in our backyard has made a big impact. It has become a way for us to guide our children, to teach values that she can bring with her wherever she goes because at the ed of the day, there is something different about things your worked hard for, to value them more and to never take them for granted.

Planting vegetables in our backyard and community garden is a simple but meaningful way to teach our child. It helps her understand the value of everything around her because things that are worked for are always appreciated more.
