Hi everyone. According the Pokebeach, the Chaos Rising prerelease promo cards have been revealed.
The upcoming Chaos Rising main set is based off of Japan's Ninja Spinner set. Chaos Rising releases on Friday, May 22 with prerelease events taking place from Saturday May 9 to Sunday May 17, 2026.
Prerelease events are casual tournaments where participants open packs before the release date and play a small casual tournament.
The four prerelease promo cards are:
- Delphox
- Ampharos
- Crobat
- Goodra

Notice how all four of these are Stage 2 Pokemon. It is rare for all four promo cards are Stage 2 Pokemon. Usually you have some are Evolved Pokemon and some Basic Pokemon as promo cards.
Delphox

Delphox is the final Fire evolution of Fennekin.
The Energized Storma attack requires 2 Fire Energy to deal 30 damage for each Energy attached to all Pokemon. At the minimum, this Delphox deals 60 damage from its own 2 Fire Energy. In theory, there is no ceiling on this attack. Delphox can hit really high numbers and opponents will have to think twice before attaching energy.
Flaring Magic is Delphox's ability that can be used once during your turn. You may discard 1 Basic Fire Energy from your hand to draw cards until 7 cards in hand. This ability is good in the prerelease format and maybe usable in standard play.
Ampharos

Ampharos is the final evolution of Mareep. The Flashing Bolt attack requires 1 Lightning Energy and 1 Colourless Energy to deal 140 damage. The drawback is that during your next turn, this Pokemon cannot use Flashing Bolt.
Synchro Pulse is the ability on Ampharos. If you have the same number of cards in your hand as your opponent, then this Ampharos deals 80 more damage from its attacks to the opponent's Active Pokemon (before Weakness and Resistance).
Crobat

Crobat is the final Dark evolution of Zubat. This has 130 HP, one retreat cost, Fighting resistance and Lightning weakness.
The Poison Sound Wave requires just 1 Dark Energy to deal 80 damage. It also deals Confusion and Poison to the opponent's Active Pokemon. This attack can be very annoying for the opponent.
Nighttime Maneuvers ability can be used once during your turn if Crobat is in the Active Spot. You search your deck for 1 card, shuffle your deck and put this selected card on top of it. This is a light version of Ciphermaniac's Codebreaking.

Goodra

Goodra is final form of Goomy and it evolves from Sligoo. This Dragon Pokemon has 160 HP, 3 retreat cost and no weakness.
The Slimy Sliding ability activates when the opponent's Active Pokemon retreats. The opponent flips a coin. If the flip is Tails, then the retreat fails and no switch happens.
Dragon Pulse requires 1 Water Energy and 1 Psychic Energy to deal 160 damage. The drawback is discarding the top card of your deck. Recovery options are not common and are less common in the prerelease format. In theory, you can discard a top card from your deck that you may need later in the game. Goodra as an attacker is good but this discard from your deck is very bad.
Closing Thoughts
Out of the four, the Crobat seems really dangerous from a gameplay perspective in the prerelease format. One Dark Energy to deal 80 damage, Poison and Confusion is really annoying for the opponent. If your Pokemon is Confused, you have to flip Heads for the attack to resume as normal. If you get Tails on Confusion, then the attack fails.
Delphox has a good ability but its damage output is dependent on the amount of Energy in play.
Ampharos can hit big numbers if the hand sizes are the same. Not being to attack the next turn after using Flashing Bolt is a big drawback.
Goodra as an attacker is okay. The energy requirements for the attack is tricky and discarding your top card from the deck is bad. There are not a lot of recovery cards available in prerelease and in standard formats.
