In recent months, a large number of films have been released with very simple concepts that end up being huge hits, just like others that have been adaptations or sequels and end up feeling like more of the same from the very first minute. Recently, Send Help was released, which has a bit of both—something new, yet at the same time something we already know. That’s why the director seeks to go beyond the typical island survival story, where the real problem and the plot of it all isn’t hunger, thirst, or loneliness—it’s the people.

The story begins with a plane crash that leaves two coworkers stranded on a remote island, bound by a working relationship marked by inequality. Little by little, everything begins to change as they must reveal their human side, learn to get along, make decisions, and take control of a situation where everything can change in seconds.

En estos últimos meses se han estrenado una gran cantidad de películas con ideas muy sencilla y termina siendo un gran exitoso, como otras que han sido adaptaciones, una secuela y terminan siendo algo de lo mismo desde el primer minuto que comienzan. Donde hace poco se estrenó Send Help, la cual tiene un poco de ambas cosas algo nuevo, pero a la vez algo que ya conocemos, por eso el director busca algo más allá de ser la típica historia de supervivencia en una isla, donde el verdadero problema y la trama de todo esto no es el hambre, ni la sed, ni la soledad, son las personas.

La historia nos presenta que todo parte desde un accidente aéreo que deja a dos compañeros de trabajo atrapados en una isla remota, la cual los une una relación laboral marcada por desigualdades. Donde poco a poco todo comienza a cambiar, ya que tienen que mostrar ese lado humano, saber llevarse bien, tomar decisiones y control de una situación que todo puede cambiar en segundos.

The director plays with various elements that keep the film building momentum and prevent it from becoming repetitive, skillfully blending tension with dark humor, discomfort with almost absurd moments, and scenes that make you wonder whether to laugh or feel guilty for doing so—all while keeping everything perfectly balanced so you can continue enjoying an adventure that perhaps no one is prepared for, leading us to ask: What happens when there are no rules? Who takes charge?

Another thing that works are the characters; much of the film’s weight rests on the young Rachel McAdams, who builds a truly interesting character and is always striving to move forward and progress—and that’s what makes her so much braver. Meanwhile, Dylan is the opposite: from the start, he does nothing and becomes a burden, causing stress, and at times, it’s clear he’s given up on the situation.

El director juega con varios elementos que hacen que la película vaya tomando fuerza y no se vuelva repetitiva, donde coloca y mezcla tensión con humor negro, incomodidad con momentos casi absurdos, y escenas que te hacen dudar si reír o sentirte mal por hacerlo, siendo que todo eso sea Perfecto y seguir disfrutando de una aventura que quizás nadie esté preparado para eso y llegar a preguntarnos ¿Qué pasa cuando no hay normas? ¿Quién toma el control de jefe?

Otras de las cosas que funcionan son los personajes que usan y gran parte del peso de la película recae en la joven Rachel McAdams, quien construye un personaje realmente interesante y siempre busca poder avanzar, progresar y eso la que tiene mucha más valentía. Mientras que, por otro lado, Dylan es lo contrario y desde el inicio, no hace nada y se convierte en una carga, da estrés y en algunos momentos, se nota que está rendido ante dicha situación.

I thought the movie Send Help was good without being overly dramatic, even though it has its uneven moments, some questionable choices that might divide opinions, and characters that don’t quite mesh. Still, it’s a unique take on the genre and a survival story that will make you think. So if you’re looking for something different and a story that plays with your mind more than with action, this island is worth a visit.

La película Send Help, me pareció buena sin mucha exageración, a pesar de que tiene sus momentos irregulares, decisiones no tan buenas que pueden dividir opiniones y personalidades que no encajan, sin embargo, es una propuesta distinta dentro del género y una supervivencia que te hará pensar. Por eso si buscas algo diferente y una historia que juegue con la mente más que con la acción esta isla vale la pena visitarla.
