Jeong-beom Son: the new Son?

Mientras Son Heung-min brilla en la MLS con Loa Angeles FC, en Seúl ha surgido otro “Son” que ilusiona a toda Corea del Sur.

Jeong-beom Son, atacante de 19 años formado en la cantera de FC Seoul y regresado de la Osan High School, se ha convertido en uno de los nombres propios de la K League 1 2026.

Con apenas unas jornadas disputadas, un total de 5 hasta ahora, el joven extremo ya es un elemento importante para el técnico Kim Gi-dong. Su velocidad, desborde y capacidad goleadora han sido clave en el arranque invicto de los capitalinos, que lideran la tabla y aspiran a romper una sequía de diez años sin título. De momento un gol y una asistencia suma en este inicio de curso.

Nacido en 2007, Son debutó profesionalmente esta temporada y ya acumula minutos decisivos. Su similitud de apellido y posición con el capitán de la selección nacional ha disparado las comparaciones, aunque el propio jugador mantiene los pies en la tierra: “Solo quiero ayudar al equipo a ganar”.

Para FC Seoul y para la selección sub-20, Jeong-beom Son representa el futuro inmediato del fútbol coreano.

Born in 2007, Son made his professional debut this season and is already racking up crucial minutes. The similarity of his last name and position to the national team captain has sparked comparisons, though the player himself remains grounded: “I just want to help the team win.”

For FC Seoul and the U-20 national team, Jeong-beom Son represents the immediate future of Korean soccer.
