Hi, how are you? Today I'm starting a series about Pokémon and the fantasy creatures that made that anime so beloved and well-known. I got the information about Pokémon from here.
Poliwag is a Water-type Pokémon inspired by the tadpoles of glass frogs, or Centrolenidae, the name of this entire family of frogs.
Due to the transparency of its skin, the organs of glass frogs are visible, and as far as I could see, only the tadpoles have that lovely rounded abdomen. The creator of Poliwag must have loved this detail, turning it into a signal to indicate whether the Pokémon has eaten: if it's clear, it's full of food; if it's barely visible, it's empty and hungry.
Poliwag is a Water-type and can absorb moisture. If you want to catch one or win a battle against it, you must use a Grass-type and an Electric-type Pokémon.
Poliwag evolves into Poliwhirl and Poliwrath.
Drowzee is a play on the English word "drowsy." This Psychic-type Pokémon is based on the Malayan tapir, Tapirus indicus.
Its favorite food is children's dreams because, according to it, they are more delicious than adults' dreams. It has the ability to cause insomnia and keep its victims on high alert. When battling a trainer for a badge or trying to catch a Drowzee, you must use a Pokémon with Ghost, Dark, or even Bug-type abilities.
Drowzee's evolution is Hypno, which I will discuss in a future post.
